Satellite Footage Captures Smoke Rising From California Wildfires

Satellite imagery posted by Colorado State University’s Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere shows smoke billowing from large wildfires in California on August 31.

The footage, which was released on social media that day, shows, among other fires, the Caldor Fire, near Lake Tahoe.

Officials said the Caldor Fire had spread to almost 200,000 acres by the early hours of September 1. The Caldor Fire and larger Dixie Fire made history in August, as they were the first two fires to burn from one side of the Sierra to another, local media reported.
