Satellite Imagery Shows Effects of Flooding in Puerto Rico After Hurricane Fiona

Satellite imagery released by Maxar Technologies on September 21, revealed the full extent of Puerto Rico’s flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona.

Maxar Technologies told Storyful it collected new satellite imagery of the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona and the aftermath of heavy rain and flooding caused by the storm over a 24 hour period, between September 20 – 21.

These images show multiple before and after shots of the damage in several towns such as Arecibo, Toa Alta, Utuado, Cerrillos, Aguilita, Salinas, Tablonal and Rojo Cabo.

According to Maxar, “multiple roads and bridges have been damaged or washed away, several towns are inundated with floodwaters and an extensive amount of sediment can be seen flowing into the ocean along the northwestern and southwestern sections of the island.”

The storm caused mass power outages in Puerto Rico, prompting US president Joe Biden to approve an emergency declaration for the area.
