Satellite Images Show Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire in New Mexico

Maxar Technologies satellite images captured on May 1 show the combined Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak fire burning in the Santa Fe National Forest northeast of the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The images were captured in natural color and color infrared, Maxar said, and show firefighting efforts.

Fire officials reported the combined Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak fire spanned 120,653 acres (about 188 square miles) and was at 20 percent containment as of May 2.

KRQE reported the wildfire has overwhelmed evacuation centers in San Miguel and Mora counties as local residents have been forced away from their homes for nearly two weeks.
