Recent satellite photos of the Kerch Strait between Ukraine’s Crimea and Russia show that Russia’s occupation forces are sinking ferries around the Crimean bridge, apparently to protect it from attack by Ukrainian maritime drones.

OSINT researcher H. I. Sutton (@CovertShores) tweeted satellite images of the crossing on Aug. 28, saying the pictures showed water barriers created by the occupiers on the western approaches to the crossing. They appeared after an attack by surface drones on the bridge on July 17.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate or HUR announced on Aug. 22 that the Russian occupiers planned to sink ferries in order to protect the illegally built Crimean bridge.

However, HUR chief Kyrylo Budanov said that the Russian occupiers would be unable protect the illegally built Crimean bridge from attacks by naval drones by sinking ferries in the Black Sea.

Explosions rang out on the Crimean bridge on the night of July 17, after which all traffic across it was stopped. Serhii Aksyonov, Russia’s puppet leader in Crimea, declared that an "emergency event" had occurred, and the Russians on social media said there serious damage had been done to to at least one section of the bridge’s roadway. Later, the occupiers announced the restoration of railway connections.

NV's sources in the law enforcement agencies reported that Ukraine’s SBU security service and the Ukrainian Navy had organized the operation to attack the Crimean bridge. According to the source, the bridge was attacked using maritime drones.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Husnullin later admitted that one section of the roadway of the Crimean bridge cannot be restored, and would have to be replaced.

This was already the second case of explosions occurring on the Crimean bridge, which Russia uses to transfer armored vehicles and manpower to the south of Ukraine: Several of its spans collapsed as a result of a powerful explosion on Oct. 8, 2022.

The Kremlin regime accused the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyryl Budanov of organizing the attack on the bridge. For its part, the HUR denied these statements, calling them "delusional."

The head of Ukraine’s SBU security service, Vasyl Maliuk, admitted for the first time on July 26 that the security service had been involved in the attack on the Crimean bridge on Oct. 8 last year.
