Satellite's Diego Fernandez-Torres wins CCU Florida Athlete of the Week online vote
Diego Fernandez-Torres of Satellite basketball won this week's online vote for Community Credit Union Florida Athlete of the Week.
Fernandez-Torres received 13,301 of the 29,476 votes cast at floridatoday.com and 321preps.com. That was 45.12 percent of the vote. Following was Nate King of Melbourne basketball, who received 6,874 votes.
Fernandez-Torres was nominated for his performances during the week of Jan. 10. He scored 25 points on Monday in a win at Melbourne, 18 against Bayside on Wednesday and 21 on Friday versus Titusville.
Shaun Armstrong of Eau Gallie basketball, Bree Ehmer of West Shore soccer, Ethan Castes of Space Coast soccer, Malic Osei-Tutu of Palm Bay basketball, Summer Snaith of Merritt Island Christian basketball and Nicholaus Lesch of Merritt Island wrestling also were nominated.
Coaches and athletic directors are invited to nominate athletes each week. Email the athlete's accomplishments for the previous Monday through Saturday to bmccallum@floridatoday.com by 10 a.m. Monday.
