Satire in the streets: Here are Facebook pages parodying Wilmington roadways and bridges

It's no secret that the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge Rehabilitation Project has already impacted many Wilmington-area drivers with increased commute times and detoured travel routes.

While these inconveniences are less than ideal due to the bridge's eastbound lane closures planned until at least early April, some have found humor in an otherwise serious situation.

Residents from the tri-county region have taken to social media, playfully venting their frustrations.

A Facebook parody page, humorously posing as the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, has gained traction in the region. However, the account doesn't stand alone.

Numerous other satirical accounts have popped up, posing as well-traveled Wilmington roadways and locations. These accounts engage with one another in the comment sections of each other's posts, fostering entertaining dialogue.

Cape Fear Memorial Bridge

This satire account, with more than 4,000 followers and 2,500 likes, humorously tackles the bridge closure.

S. 3rd Street, Wilmington NC

With nearly 500 followers and more than 220 likes, this account poses as S. 3rd Street in downtown Wilmington.

The introduction to the page reads: "I am North, I am South, I am street."

Posting screenshots of roadmaps highlighting traffic accidents and congestion, the page playfully critiques Wilmington drivers and roadways.

A post with over 30 likes reads: "I am not a bowling lane, those barricades are not bumpers."

Midtown, Wilmington NC

This account, posing as Midtown in Wilmington, has more than 430 followers and 270 likes.

"Hey it's foggy out. Please be sure to drive with your brights and hazards on in midtown. Thanks," one sarcastic post from this account reads.

Trader Joe's Parking Lot

With 295 followers and 179 likes, this account poses as the parking lot of a popular grocery chain on the corner of Oleander and College Rd.

A post from Jan. 29 reads: "I love how y'all daily shoppers try to run in and out at this time on a Monday. It's cute -- really."

ILM KMART Parking Lot

The introduction to this page reads: "You know what it means when you come here. You know what you did."

Posing as the parking lot of a permanently closed KMART on S. College Rd., this account has 293 followers and 149 likes.
