Saturday could be the hottest day of the year in Austin. Are you prepared?

Saturday will be another reminder that summer is right around the corner.

Forecasters expect temperatures to reach 91 degrees in Austin, which would be the hottest day of the year.

The record high for April 15 in Austin was 94 degrees at Camp Mabry in 1924. The highest temperature in Austin this year was 90 on Feb. 22.

However, National Weather Service meteorologist Mack Morris said 90-degree highs won't become the seasonal norm until late May.

Morris said Saturday's high temperature is due to compressional heating ahead of a cold front. He said there is a chance of a powerful storm or two during the day, especially in areas east of Interstate 35 toward the coastal plains.

He said the advancing cold front will give us cooler temperatures beginning on Sunday.

“Sunday will be the day to get outside,” Morris said. The expected high is 77 degrees, but with wind gusts up to 30 mph.

Forecasters said temperatures will reach a high of near 80 on Monday and 77 on Tuesday, with a chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. on Tuesday and into the night.
