Saturday night drive-by shooting reported in Hills

Oct. 24—HILLS — The Rock County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of shots fired with possible injuries at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at a residence in Hills.

Savannah Johnson, 18, of Paullina, Iowa, was found to have been shot in the leg according to a press release from the Rock County Sheriff's Department. Medical personnel tended to her non-life threatening injuries.

According to the press release, witnesses at the scene indicated they were having a birthday party. Later that evening, three males entered the residence. Two of them were described as 6 feet tall — one African American and one Asian, both wearing their hair in dreadlocks or braids. No description was given of the third male.

The owner of the residence advised the unknown males to leave, which they did. The males were later invited by two females at the party to return. However, the owner of the residence reportedly did not want them there and asked them to leave again.

While the unknown males exited the residence, the owner of the residence and party-goers also exited the residence and were standing on the front lawn.

At this time, approximately six gunshots were reportedly fired toward the residence from the vehicle the unknown males had just entered. Witnesses indicated there was a fourth person in the vehicle as well.

The vehicle, a Dodge Dart — black or charcoal in color — left the scene.

Law enforcement believes this to be an isolated incident and that the public is not in danger.

The case remains under investigation with assistance from the Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Police Department.

Assisting at the scene were the Hills Fire Department and the Rock County Ambulance.
