Saturday roundup: Minerva and Carrollton girls, Fairless boys win cross country titles

The defending Division II state champion Minerva girls, the Fairless boys and the Carrollton girls won team titles on the opening weekend of the 2022 high school cross country regular season.

Fairless won the boys small division race at Saturday’s Claymont Early Bird Invitational. Andrew Hearn of the Falcons was the individual winner in 17:44.20. Teammate Joseph Slatzer finished second in 17:53.11.

Carrollton was the large division girls winner at Claymont. Maddie Burgett of the Warriors finished first in 21:18.69. Teammate Elizabeth Funkhouser came in second in 21:34.25.

Minerva won the girls orange division title at the Seneca East Tiger Classic. Hera Hoffee finished third in 19:13.20 to lead the Lions.
