Saturday's heat in Athens ties record set in 2007

Saturday was a scorcher in Georgia.

In Athens, the high hit 99 degrees, tied the previous record for hottest August 26 temperature, which was set in 2007, according to the National Weather Service.

Macon topped out at 104 degrees, which broke the previous record of 101 degrees set in 1998, the NWS said.

The Athens area will see some reprieve from the heat in the coming week as rain and thunderstorms are predicated to drop the highs as low as the mid 70s.
