WIAA Division 1 State Championships

WAUKESHA - David Mayer led D.C. Everest to an eighth-place finish in the team standings, the highest finish for a team in the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin coverage area.

Middleton won the team title with 288 points, while Hartland Arrowhead was second with 211.

Mayer finished third in the 100-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle. He also swam on the Evergreens’ 200 freestyle relay that finished second and the 400 freestyle relay that finished sixth.

Mayer was joined on both relay teams by Camden Barwick, Keaton Barwick and Blake Beatty.

Neenah’s Drew Gaerthofner finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

Bay Port’s Turner Long placed sixth in the 500 freestyle.

Sheboygan North’s top finisher was Landen Ramsey, who finished third at 120 pounds, defeating Shemi Seigel of Homestead 12-0 in the third-place match.

GRAND CHUTE - Beckett Davidson scored in the 14th minute of the second period to snap a 1-1 score and propel the Rockets to the win over the Ice Bears.

Ryan Johnson and Calvin Zinda assisted on Davidson’s goal.

Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha had taken a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of the first period on a goal by Cooper Zinda with Ben Kitkowski getting the assist.

West Bend evened the game less than one minute later on an unassisted goal by Stone Daczka.

Caleb Moore had 20 saves for Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha. Charlie Eckert had 29 saves for West Bend.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Warbirds 4, Arrowhead 1 (Friday)

FOND DU LAC - The Warbirds got two goals from Allison Waara and one each from Ella Spies and Syd Retzlaff in the win over Arrowhead in the regional final.

Petra Bukor, Spies and Maddy Gilson had assists for the Warbirds, who led 2-0 after two periods.

Hailee Scheier had 16 saves for the Warbirds. Brihanna Chmiel had 41 saves for Arrowhead.

Bella Hamel scored Arrowhead’s only goal. It came in the third period after the Warbirds had built a 3-0 lead.
