BOYS HOCKEY

Notre Dame 3, Bay Port 2

ASHWAUBENON - The Tritons remained unbeaten, running their record to 26-0-0 and advancing to the WIAA Division 1 state tournament with the overtime win over the Pirates.

Notre Dame, ranked No. 1 in the state, defeated the second-ranked Pirates just 29 seconds into overtime when Hunter Bill sent a shot from the left side of the rink over the shoulder of Bay Port goalie Devin Rustlie.

Tied 1-1 after two periods, Bay Port’s Nick Voss put his team up on a 4-on-4 even strength goal early in the third period.

Then with six minutes left in the period, Sam Kappell tied the game for Notre Dame.

Brenden Gruber scored for Notre Dame at 12:03 of the first period and Noah Brunke scored for Bay Port at 12:35 of the first period.

Mosinee 2, Lakeland 1

MOSINEE - Mosinee sandwiched its two goals around one by the Thunderhawks in the second period to win and advance to the WIAA Division 2 state tournament.

Caden Schmirler put Mosinee ahead 1-0 on a power play with Elliot Yirkovsky getting the assist in the fifth minute of the second period.

Lakeland’s Gray Wagner tied the game on a power play with Aden Theissen assisting at 16:01.

Just 35 seconds later, Yirkovsky scored on an even-strength unassisted goal to put Mosinee ahead to stay.

Aiden Karst had 29 saves for Mosinee. Max Masayesva had 19 saves for Lakeland.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Bay Area 3, University School 1

FOND DU LAC - The Ice Bears are headed back to the WIAA state tournament for the first time since 2017 after beating University School.

In their last appearance at the state tournament, the Ice Bears finished second to state champion D.C. Everest.

Kaukauna 68, Menomonee Falls 60

KAUKAUNA - Alexa Kinas scored 39 points, including 22 in the second half, to lead the Ghosts past the Phoenix.

Addison Baumgart added 17 for Kaukauna.

Clare Shae led Menomonee Falls with 21 points. Jade Warren and Kate Janssen added 15 and 14 points, respectively.

MEQUON - The seventh-seeded Papermakers turned around a six-point deficit in the final 2:30 of the game with a 9-0 run to upset the second-seeded Highlanders.

Alix Kilpatrick, who finished with eight points, made two free throws with 10 seconds left to put Kimberly up by three.

Homestead then missed a contested 3-point shot at the buzzer.

Kate McGinnis led Kimberly with 18 points. Raegen Krueger had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Kenzie Drout added 12 points and eight assists.

Kimberly is 15-11 while Homestead ends its season at 22-4.

APPLETON - Emily Jaenke scored 16 of her game-high 27 points in the second half to lead the Foxes to the victory.

Jaenke also went 11-for-11 from the free throw line to help the Foxes seal the win.

Lauren Riesop added 14 points and Alayna Feidt had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for FVL.

GREEN BAY - The Tritons advanced to the sectional semifinals by putting up 43 points in the first half in their win over the Bluejays.

Trista Fayta and Gracie Grzesk both scored 16 points to lead Notre Dame. Payton Musial added 11.

Menasha, which finished the season with a 16-9 record, was led by Mara Rieder with 12 points.

FREEDOM - The Irish went on a 12-0 run early in the second half to overcome a five-point halftime deficit in the win over the Hawks.

Xavier had taken the halftime lead with a 20-4 run late in the first half.

Kierstin Kriewaldt and Rylie Murphy led Freedom with 16 points each. Sydney Bartels added 10 points.

ROSENDALE - The Spartans held on to a 10-point halftime lead to defeat the Cardinals in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Laconia will host Winnebago Lutheran in a regional quarterfinal matchup Tuesday, while Mayville will host Jefferson.

Cash Farrell led Laconia with 17 points, Jaeden Grade added 15 points and Ethan Pinno had 12 for the Spartans.

Adison Mittelstadt scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Cardinals and Brad Bushke followed with 14 for Mayville.
