BOYS VOLLEYBALL

FVA Pool Play Day

KAUKAUNA - Kaukauna went 4-0 to take first place in the FVA pool play event.

Kaukauna beat Appleton North 21-25, 25-23, 15-9, then beat Appleton West and Fond du Lac before beating Kimberly 2-0 in the first-place match.

Kimberly also had a 3-1 record.

Brady Koester had 22 kills and Garret Biesterveld had 20 kills for Kimberly. Kevin McGrath had 39 digs, Aaron Nelson had 50 assists and four aces, Lucas Eckrose had 18 kills and 22 digs, Gage Stahmann had 28 assists and Noah Schipper had five aces.

“It was a total team effort all morning with three straight wins to get us in the championship match,” Kimberly coach Matt Seidl said. “I was proud of how we bounced back today after a tough loss earlier in the week. We keep growing as a team and making key improvements. The boys are working really hard and have great attitudes.”

Appleton North had a 3-1 record. The Lightning beat Fond du Lac 25-12, 27-25; beat Appleton West 25-18, 25-22; and beat Neenah 25-12, 25-13.

Gavin Tate had 19 kills and six aces for the Lightning. Alex Ramus had 56 digs and Connor Cantrell had 57 assists. Other leaders for North were Bennett Kornaus with 15 kills and seven aces, Grant Hardy with 13 kills and six aces, Jadon Ciriacks with 12 kills, Nathan Ramus with nine kills and Cole Debruin with 18 assists.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Kettle Moraine Lutheran Classic

JACKSON - Xavier won the championship match against New Berlin West to bring home the tournament title.

Xavier beat Lakeside Lutheran 27-25, 25-14; beat Waunakee 25-22, 25-15; beat Wisconsin Lutheran 25-15, 25-16; beat Waunakee again 25-20, 19-25, 15-12; and then beat New Berlin West 25-17, 25-21 in the title match.

Mariah Potter had 99 assists and 22 digs, Annika Kowalski had 30 kills and five service aces, Mattea Kiepert had 27 kills and nine aces, and Halle Vande Hey had 26 kills and seven blocks. Belle Shea added 52 digs, Madison Daley had 27 kills and Olivia Neumann had 16 kills for the Hawks. Haley Flick added nine aces and 14 digs.

The Hawks’ record is 17-4 overall.

Beaver Dam Invitational

BEAVER DAM - Hortonville went undefeated to win the tournament, beating Beaver Dam, New Holstein, Mayville, Grafton and Holmen.

The Polar Bears came back to take the final two sets 27-25, 15-8 after falling 18-25 in the first set of the championship match against Holmen.

Marin Grossman had 13 kills and six digs, Molly Rohde had four blocks and two aces, Lily Berrens also had two aces and eight digs, Molly Fischer had 13 digs and Paige Lillie contributed 12 assists in the championship match for Hortonville.

Terror Invitational

APPLETON - Fox Valley Lutheran went 5-0 on the day and finished as the tournament champs.

In pool play, FVL defeated Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 25-7, 25-7; Green Bay Southwest 25-21, 25-18; and West De Pere 25-13, 25-11.

The Foxes swept Waupaca in the semifinal 25-20, 25-22 to earn a matchup with Green Bay Southwest in the championship. FVL dropped its first set of the tournament to the Fighting Trojans before bouncing back to take the following two sets and claim the championship 15-25, 25-14, 15-11.

Annalise Patchett had 23 kills, Samantha Kempinger had 30 kills and Ava Patchett had 48 aces for the Foxes.

Dodgeland Tournament

JUNEAU - Laconia went undefeated in pool play before losing in the championship match to take second place at the tournament.

Laconia beat Lake Country Lutheran 25-16, 23-25, 15-6; beat Poynette 25-11, 25-14; and beat Rhinelander 25-8, 25-15 in pool play.

The Spartans beat Dodgeland 25-9, 25-14 in the semifinals, then lost to Lake Country Lutheran 25-8, 25-18 in the championship match.

Eva Engel had 24 kills and 20 digs, Lexie Janeczko had 22 digs, 12 kills and six aces, Mariska Kees had 34 assists and 12 digs, Payton Morgan had 10 digs and 13 kills for Laconia.

Emma Bohn added 53 digs, Pallen Kloetzke had 46 assists and 18 digs, Mattie Isaac had 19 kills and 11 blocks, and Callista VandeBerg had 15 kills and eight digs for the Spartans.

Brookfield Central Tournament

BROOKFIELD - Luxemburg-Casco finished in fourth place in the 12-team tournament.

In pool play, the Spartans beat Shorewood 25-8, 25-7 and beat Nicolet 25-4, 25-15.

Luxemburg-Casco beat Oshkosh West in the quarterfinals 25-16, 25-20 before losing to Brookfield Central 22-25, 21-25 in the semifinals. The Spartans then lost to Oak Creek 18-25, 25-22, 8-15 in the third-place match.

Alayna Deprez had 90 assists, 20 digs and seven aces, Autumn Flynn had 46 kills and seven aces, Kylie Hanson had 27 kills and 26 digs, and Brooke VandeHei had 51 digs and eight aces for the Spartans.

“It would have been nice to pick off one or both of those last two matches, but I thought we did a lot of really good things today,” L-C coach Jeff Frey said. “We continue to get better every time we step on the court, and that’s exciting.”

Neenah finished in 10th place at the tournament with a 1-3 record.

The Rockets lost to Oak Creek 21-25, 17-25; lost to Menomonee Falls 22-25, 16-25; beat Sun Prairie East 25-15, 25-21; and lost to Cedarburg 19-25, 24-26.

Leia Kersten had 49 assists, 25 digs and 12 service aces for Neenah. Marissa Corso added 16 kills and 11 digs, Jenna Lawatsch had 23 digs, Carly Stamm had 14 kills and five blocks, and Elizabeth Oldenburg had 41 digs for Neenah. Haley Mayer and Makenna Baker each added 11 kills.

Ashwaubenon Invitational

ASHWAUBENON - NEW Lutheran had a 4-1 record and finished in second place at the invitational.

In pool play, the Blazers beat Ashwaubenon 25-22, 25-20; Calumet 25-22, 25-21; and Hilbert 25-16, 29-31, 15-12.

The Blazers beat Sturgeon Bay 25-12, 25-20 in the semifinals before losing to Calumet 14-25, 25-17, 13-15 in the championship match.

Greta Wise had 74 kills, 54 digs and 10 service aces, Abby Kirchner had 108 assists, 16 aces and 30 digs, Emma Laatsch had 29 kills and 40 digs, and Lexi Dhein had 36 digs. Lexie Meerstein added 14 kills and 14 digs for the Blazers (12-4 overall).

Auburndale Invite

AUBURNDALE - Columbus Catholic went 5-0 and took first place at the 10-team tournament.

The Dons beat Nekoosa 25-19, 25-16; beat Mosinee 25-8, 21-25, 16-14; beat Pacelli 25-17, 20-25, 15-6; beat Auburndale 25-14, 25-17; and beat Stratford 23-25, 25-18, 16-14.

Courtney Sommer had 44 kills and 55 assists, Jenna Kibbel had 31 kills, 14 aces and 46 digs, Lily Stratman had 60 assists, Izzy Hoglund had 70 digs and five aces, and Grace Wilczek had 39 digs and five aces for the Dons. Aaliyah Krenn added 24 kills, and Mattea Schlafke had 21 digs and six aces.

“The girls worked hard as a team and are continuing to trust one another. I give them a lot of credit on how they keep fighting and keep learning. This is a special group of kids,” coach Katrina Egle said.

Mosinee took seventh place. It beat Pacelli 25-18, 25-15; lost to Auburndale 18-25, 15-25; lost to Columbus Catholic; lost to Nekoosa 19-25, 25-13, 15-17; and beat Assumption 25-9, 25-20.

MaKayla Weisner had 42 kills, Tristan Wicklund had 25 kills and 28 digs, Amber Gonzalez had 17 kills, and Alexis Jonas had 94 assists and 22 digs for Mosinee. Addison Vaughn added 38 digs and eight service aces for Mosinee, which is 11-6 overall.

FOOTBALL

St. Mary Catholic/Valley Christian 60, Wonewoc/Weston 13

CAZENOVIA - The Zephyrs outgained the Wolves 271-111 despite calling 15 fewer offensive plays to earn the victory and improve to 3-0 in the Ridge & Valley 8-Player Football-East Conference.

Atticus Johnson opened the scoring on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Danny Griffith. Ashton Post tallied four touchdowns on the ground to lead SMC/VC.

On special teams, Owen Swanstorm returned a punt 80 yards and Charlie Nackers took a kickoff 85 yards, both for touchdowns.

WAUSAU - Thomas Bates ran for 259 yards and two touchdowns for the top-ranked Cardinals.

Connor Krach added 177 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass.

GIRLS TENNIS

Kaukauna Invite

KAUKAUNA - Olivia Minikel at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Dvorak and Taylor Peterson had first-place finishes for Manitowoc.

No. 2 doubles team Zylia Kleinfeldt and Jordin Popp and No. 3 singles player Molly Forkins finished in second place for the Ships, while No. 2 singles player Sophia Wergin took third place.

BOYS SOCCER

Wausau East 2, Mosinee 1

WAUSAU - George Vang and Donavan Young scored unassisted goals for the Lumberjacks in the victory.

Connor Smith had 14 saves in goal for East.

Mosinee’s goal was scored by Jaeger Dhein, with the assist from Cole Kowalski.

Keaton Wieloch had seven saves for Mosinee (4-3-2).

Green Bay Preble 2, Appleton East 1

APPLETON - Carter Wiernasz and Bogdan Tereshchenko scored for the Hornets (3-3-1) in the nonconference win.

D.C. Everest 3, Rice Lake 1

RICE LAKE - Evan Peak scored two goals for the Evergreens in the nonconference victory.

Adin Schultz also scored for D.C. Everest.

Giovani Alonzo and Colin Belton had assists.

Evergreens goalie Jacob Lorge made four saves.

St. Mary Catholic 3, NEW Lutheran 1

NEENAH - Kieran Barrientos opened up the scoring for SMC with a goal in the 35th minute, assisted by AJ Groppel. Groppel would then add his own goal on an assist from Barrientos.

Brady Paul got the Blazers on the scoreboard with a penalty kick goal in the 70th minute to cut the lead in half, but just two minutes later a second goal from Groppel, with Barrientos assisting, sealed the match for the Zephyrs.

Hunter Schreiber had eight saves for SMC and his counterpart for NEW Lutheran had nine saves.

With the victory, the Zephyrs improve to 5-0-1 on the season.
