Saturday's HS highlights: Dover, TCC boys basketball earn wins at Spectrum Orthopaedics Classic

Mikey Beal scored 16 points, Ayden Hall had 12, T.C. Molk added 11 and Joey Farthing put in 10 as the Dover boys basketball team defeated Granville 61-41 in the Spectrum Orthopaedics Classic at Hoover High School on Saturday.

The Crimson Tornadoes improved to 12-1 with their ninth straight win, while the Blue Aces dropped to 7-5.

Dover led 12-8 after the first quarter, 29-24 at the half and expanded its lead to 40-29 after three quarters of play.

Dover defeated Granville 56-26 in the JV contest as Zane Conner and Tommy Coletti scored 12 points each to improve to 11-0.

On Friday, Dover's JVs downed Marietta 41-20 as Carter Grove and Trey Ridgeway each scored 10 points.

Central Catholic 64, Fairless 34

Zander Sabin tallied 24 points and dished out 10 assists and Jordan Cherry added 13 points as Tuscarawas Central Catholic defeated Fairless in the first game of the Spectrum Orthopaedics Classic at Hoover.

The Saints (8-7), who also got eight points from Kayden Crosier, led 10-9 after the opening frame, 28-22 at the half and 46-29 heading to the fourth quarter.

Brody Pumneo led Fairless (6-10) with 12 points and Carson Colucci added 11.

Norwayne 77, Malvern 65

Isaiah Portis scored 20 points, Ethan Hahn had 18 and Justin Ropp added 15 points and seven rebounds as Norwayne defeated state-ranked Malvern in the final Saturday game of the Spectrum Orthopaedics Classic at Hoover.

It was only the second loss of the season for the Hornets (10-2), ranked No. 8 in Division IV. Malvern has lost two of its last three games after a 9-0 start to the season.

Norwayne, who led 20-17 after one quarter, 41-37 at the half and 56-54 going to the final frame, sank 30 of 48 shots from the floor for 63 percent.

Michael Minor led Malvern with 22 points and seven rebounds. Noah Ball added 11 points and Dylan Phillips put in nine.

Olentangy Orange 44, New Phila 33

Olentangy Orange pitched a near fourth quarter shutout as it allowed just two points and pulled way for a win over New Philadelphia in a game played at Ohio Dominican.

Orange took a 35-31 lead into the final frame after leading 25-18 at the half and 14-8 after one quarter.

Carter Vandall led New Phila (9-3) with 13 points.

John Glenn 56, Strasburg 32

Host John Glenn downed Strasburg in non-conference play at The Fish Tank in New Concord.

The Little Muskies led 10-5 after one quarter, 23-10 at the half and 37-20 heading to the fourth quarter.

Landon Potopsky led the Tigers (9-5) with 16 points in the loss.

West Holmes 53, Maysville 48

Blake Morrison tallied 15 points and Channer Wells added 13 as West Holmes picked up a non-conference win at Maysville.

Alex Bobb scored 20 points to lead the Panthers. Rashaud Hampton added 13.

Girls basketball

South Bend Washington 40, Hiland 25

Kira Reynolds and Amiyah Reynolds each scored 11 points as South Bend Washington (Indiana) downed host Hiland at Classic in the Country to conclude the first day of the 19th annual three-day event in Berlin.

The winners (18-2) outscored the Hawks (10-5) 19-7 in the second half to pull out the victory on the road.

South Bend Washington led 14-11 after the opening quarter, 21-18 at the half and 30-21 after three quarters of action.

Aila Miller led Hiland with 11 points and Trish Troyer was next with nine on three 3 pointers.

Canton South ended Strasburg's 13-game winning streak after the Wildcats downed the Tigers in a non-conference game at Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, Indiana.

Canton South jumped out to a 20-5 lead after one quarter of play and led 23-14 at the half before Strasburg rallied to take a 28-27 advantage into the final frame.

Indian Valley 41, Lake Center Christian 26

Madison Monte scored 15 points as Indian Valley picked up its first win of the season, a non-league decision at Lake Center Christian.

The Braves (1-13) also got eight points and nine rebounds from Celeste Rummell and eight more points from Macy Lancaster.

Indian Valley led 8-2 after the opening quarter, 25-8 at the half nd 29-19 going too the final frame.

Emma Fulk scored six points to lead Lake Center Christian.

The Braves JV team won 32-24. Brooklyn Myers had 11 points and Hannah Johnson added eight 8.

Tusky Valley 58, Claymont 22

Ashley Merrick scored 18 points, Kaleigh Norris added 11 and Leah Bourquin put in 10 as Tusky Valley picked up an IVC South road win at Claymont.

The Trojans, who improved to 12-2, 8-0, led 13-6 after the first quarter, 34-15 at the half and 47-18 after three quarters of action.

Bailey Eddleman led Claymont (5-8, 2-5) with nine points and Makayla Frink was next with six.

Claymont won the JV contest 29-28.

Malvern 43, East Canton 39

Maddie Powers scored 18 points and Alyiah Watson added 13 points and 10 rebounds as Malvern rallied for an IVC North win at East Canton.

The Hornets (9-6, 5-2) trailed 29-22 going to the fourth quarter where they outscored the Wizards 21-10 to pull out the win.

Malvern led 7-4 after the first quarter and was up 17-15 at the half before the Wizards took the seven-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Samantha Monter led East Canton with 12 points and Tori Reichard added eight.

Warren Local 56, Dover 31

Abbie Smith scored 21 points and Alex Frazee added 14 as Warren Local ended Dover's five-game winning streak with an East Central Ohio League decision at Vincent.

Warren (8-4, 4-0) led 13-2 after one quarter, 29-6 at the half and to a 37-22 lead into the final frame before scoring the first 11 of the fourth quarter to nail down the win.

Tori Jones led Dover (6-7, 1-3) with 15 points, while Ava Zobel grabbed seven rebounds to lead the way.

The Dover JV team won 20-12 in two quarters as Morgan Karam led the way with 10 points.

Fairless 79, Canton Central Catholic 45

Grace Lyon fired in 32 points, Kam Kondrach added 13 and Gracie Ashton chipped in 12 as Fairless rolled to a non-conference win at Canton Central Catholic.

The Falcons, who also got eight points from Susanna Snavely, led 16-11 after the first quarter and held the Crusaders to just four points in the second quarter to take a 41-15 lead at the half. The visitors took a 62-35 advantage into the final frame.

Gracie Turner paced CCC with 16 points and Kaitlin Belden added 11.

Carrollton 50, Minerva 31

Hillari Baker scored 16 points and Demi Leary added 10 to lead host Carrollton to an Eastern Buckeye Conference win over Minerva.

The Warriors led 18-11 after one quarter, 28-18 at the half and 34-22 going to the fourth quarter.

Hera Hoffee paced Minerva with 13 points and Jenna Cassidy added 12.

Garaway 37, Ridgewood 32

Rylee Putt put in 14 points and Meghan Schwartz added nine as host Garaway posted an IVC South win over Ridgewood.

Garaway (7-8, 4-4), who also got seven points from Makayla Sitzlar and six from Marley Metzger, led 13-7 after one quarter, trailed 21-10 at the half, but took a 29-28 lead into the final frame.

Kelsie Stephens led Ridgewood (5-9, 1-7) with 15 points and eight rebounds and Mya Masloski added 10 points.

Buckeye Trail 60, Newcomerstown 19

Host Buckeye Trail rolled to an IVC North win over Newcomerstown.

Buckeye Trail (5-8, 3-4) led 12-4 after one quarter, 28-9 at the half and 45-15 going to the final frame.

The Trojans dropped to 1-11, 1-6.

West Holmes 38, Orrville 27

Kinsey Patterson: scored 13 points and recorded six steals and Ella McMillen added 11 points and seven rebounds as West Holmes picked up a non-conference win at Orrville.

The Knights and Red Riders were tied 8-8 after the opening quarter. West Holmes led 17-14 at the half and 24-18 going to the fourth quarter.

Melanie Fair (6 points, 7 rebounds), Allie McMillen (5 points, 8 rebounds), Claire Reynolds: (3 points) and Keegan Uhl (6 assists) aided in the win.

Swimming

OVAC Championships

Dover's boys and girls won the the 5A titles at the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Swimming Championships held at Brooke High School.

Dover's boys won with a whopping 575 points, topping second place Parkersburg South (324.5). New Philadelphia was sixth (141.5).

Lucas Lane had a pair of individual wins in the 200 free (1:45.85) and 500 free (4:41.99) and added a pair of relay wins.

Cameron Marshall also had an individual win in the 200 IM (2:06.77) and was on two winning relays.

Lane and Marshall combined with Simon Lorentz and Blaze Burris to win the 200 free relay (1:33.50) and joined Burris and Kasey Ruegesgger on the winning 400 free relay (3:23.83).

Dover's girls won with 444 points with St. Clairsville taking second (364). New Philadelphia was seventh (174.5).

Bowling

Dover Invitational

The River View girls and Minerva boys were the overall team winners of the annual Dover Invitational held at Wabash Lanes.

River View defeated New Philadelphia 2-1 in a best of three Baker Games as did Minerva over East Liverpool to claim the boys crown.

The girls all-tournament first included Dover's Kaylie Gibson (635), East Liverpool's Addison Rudibaugh (600), River View's Maeve Gentile (578), New Philadelphia's Graci Wigfield (556) and Quaker teammate Maggie Compher (546).

The second team included New Phila's Hannah Trimble (544), Dover's Natalie Nealey (529), Minerva's Lydia Sanor (504) and Lion teammate Jadynn Thompson (487).

The boys all-tournament first team included East Liverpool's Gavin Maze (687), River View's Cameron Collopy (670), Minerva's Ahdyn Lautenheiser (666), Garaway's Clayton Burky (660) and East Liverpool's Nathan Kelly (655),

The second team included Dover's Jacob Shanklin (649), New Phila's Alex Kinsely (637), Minerv'a Michael May (615), Garaway's Jake Braun (596) and River View's TJ Crosby (588).

Wrestling

Jesse Campbell Memorial Duals

West Holmes went 10-0 on their way to a team dual title at the Jesse Campbell Memorial Duals.

The Knights had dual wins versus Elyria Catholic, Greenon, Clear Fork, Northmor, Ontario, Delaware Hayes, Marion Pleasant, Mansfield Senior and Mentor.

Brady Smith, Mason Taylor and Tucker Kaufman all went 10-0 on the weekend individually.
