Saturday's HS sports highlights: Dover girls tennis has solid showing at Mount Vernon

The Dover High School girls tennis team played at the Mount Vernon Invitational to start off their 2022 season on Saturday and came away with a fourth-place finish as a team.

Sophomore Taylor Rose was the 1st Singles champion with wins over Lancaster 8-2, Big Walnut, 8-4, and DeSales 8-2.

At 2nd Singles, senior Kaleigh McCutcheon finished runner up with wins over Granville 8-5, Newark 8-3, before losing to Big Walnut 8-3.

Senior Josie Pinelli finished in fourth place with a 1st round win over Mount Vernon 8-2, before Losing to Big Walnut 8-2, and Lancaster 8-4

At 1st doubles, senior Julia Swope and sophomore Morgan Huston, finished in seventh place with tough losses to DeSales 8-2 and Mount Vernon 8-3, but had a decisive win over Clearfork 8-0.

At 2nd doubles, senior Katlyn Hines and sophomore Avery Contini finished in fifth place with a first round loss to Big Walnut, followed by a default win over Clear Fork, and a tough win over Mount Vernon 8-6.

Big Walnut won with 32 points followed by Columbus DeSales (2nd, 23), Lancaster (3rd, 22), Dover (4th, 21), Granville (5th, 16), Newark (6th, 13), Mout Vernon (7th, 3) and Clear Fork (8th, 3).

Dover 323, Cambridge 405

At Cambridge Country Club, Dover beat Cambridge as Jacob Hanner led the Crimson Tornadoes with a 76.

Zach Dale shot 80, Ryan Yoder 83, and Chase Coyne added an 84 for Dover.

For Cambridge, Jackson Reed shot 87, Bradyn Gregg 87, Aidan Castello 110, and Jax VanDyne 121.

Dover is now 1-0 in duals and 22-10 overall. Cambridge is 2-2. They both play next on Monday at River Greens in the Indian Valley Invitational at 1 p.m.
