Saturday's Top Prep Performers: Engelhardt runs fastest 800 in nation
Highlights from Saturday in high school sports:
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
At West Coast Relays
Ventura: Sadie Engelhardt ran the fastest high school 800 time in the nation with a 2:06.71. The sophomore also owns national-leading times for the 1,600, mile and 3,200. Valentina Fakrogha won the gold division high jump (5-5) and was fifth in the gold 400 (58.14). Violet Hurguy placed 15th in the silver division 1,600 (5:23.81).
At the Spartan Relays & Distance Carnival
Moorpark: Leah Moorpark won the 800 (2:36.74). Kristen Gibbel won the 1,600 (5:38.98) and 3,200 (12:23.44). Kristin Cole won the 400 (1:01.27).
Buena: The Bulldogs won the 4x100 relay (49.21). Maddy Easter won the 100 (12.44) and 200 (25.66).
Ventura: The Cougars won the 4x800 relay (10:28.13).
Oxnard: Akira Jones won the 100 hurdles (17.06). Natalie Estrella won the shot put (31-05).
Foothill Tech: Lily Shadden won the long jump (5-02). Brooke Pyle won the long jump (15-01). Maycie Duston won the discus (94-05).
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
At West Coast Relays
Ventura: The Cougars won the 4x800 relay (7:58.66). Anthony Fasthorse was second in the gold division 800 (1:55.78). Micah Grossman was eighth in the 800 (1:59.35). Wyatt Schrader was fourth in the gold shot put (51-7).
Foothill Tech: Cole Dinkler was fourth in the gold division pole vault (14-8).
Simi Valley: Nicholas Maxon was seventh in the gold division pole vault (12-8).
At the Spartan Relays & Distance Carnival
Moorpark: Christian Brady-Breton won the 1,600 (4:31.19). Hunter Lee won the 3,200 (10:13.26). Carson Zeedik won the long jump (19-02).
Oxnard: The Yellowjackets won the 4x100 relay (44.14) and 4x800 relay (8:32.28). Alain Chavez won the triple jump (41-07).
St. Bonaventure: Delon Thompson won the 100 (11.02) and 200 (22.49).
Ventura: The Cougars won the 4x400 relay (3:49.00). Andrew Edmondson won the 110 hurdles (17.01).
Camarillo: Ryan Jertberg won the 400 (52.67).
Rio Mesa: Jackson Knowles won the high jump (6-02).
Foothill Tech: Daniel Kovalski won the 800 (2:06.42).
SOFTBALL
Rio Mesa defeated Chino Hills 6-0 and then beat Vista Murrieta 1-0 to win the Silver Division championship of the Michelle Carew Classic. Against Chino Hills, Mariana Palazuelos went 2 for 4 with a two-run home run, Hailey Olivera was 3 for 3 with an RBI, Ciara Lopez went 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Jasmine Reyes pitched a six-inning shutout with four strikeouts. Against Vista Murrieta in the final, Olivera had a squeeze bunt to score Reyes with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and Nicolette Hunter pitched a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts for the Spartans (13-1-1). Palazuelos was named the MVP of the tournament and Reyes, Hunter and Sarah Coccillos were named to the all-tournament team.

Moorpark defeated Granada Hills 7-0 in five innings and Kennedy 8-3 at the Village Christian Tournament. Against Granada Hills, Madison Finnerty pitched a two-hit shutout with four strikeouts, Driana Martinez was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Terra Hothan went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Sydney Burckhard finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored, and Kate Guy was 1 for 1 with a double and two walks. Against Kennedy, Shae Anderson was 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs, Daniela Isarraras went 3 for 3 with an RBI, Martinez was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Jodianne Buckley finished 2 for 3, and Viviana Ramirez allowed three hits while striking out eight in a complete-game effort.
Camarillo defeated Newbury Park 6-2 and Agoura 8-3. Angelina Apodaca went 4 for 7 with four RBIs, Justice Flores was 3 for 6, Laynee Flores went 2 for 4, Jazlyn Alvary had a double and a three-run home run, Isabella Fortini was 2 for 6 with a double, Ainsely Berlingeri allowed two hits while striking out 10 in six innings, and Ava Tepesano allowed five hits while striking out three in six innings.
BASEBALL
Ty Weeks allowed just one hit in five shutout innings, Camden Walker hit a two-run home run, Tanner Beltowski went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, and Kyle Banks, Eric Barron, Alex Schaefer, Miguel Magallanes and Cody Gallegos each had a hit and an RBI to lead Buena to an 11-0 victory over St. Bonaventure in a nonleague game.
Josh Woodworth went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs, Wylan Nelson finished 2 for 4 with a homer, and Dash Lopez was 2 for 2 with two runs scored to lead Ventura to a 5-3 win over Granada Hills in a nonleague game.
Joshua Chavez hit a three-run home run, Anthony Cuevas was 1 for 3 with two RBIs, and Ruben Venegas pitched four scoreless innings of relief to lead Santa Paula to a 6-2 win over Rio Mesa in a nonleague game.
