Saturday's Top Prep Performers: Sadie Engelhardt sets Mt. SAC Relays record in mile

Highlights from Saturday in high school spring sports:

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

At Mt. SAC Relays, Friday-Saturday

  • Ventura: Sadie Engelhardt set a meet record in the mile run (4:38.53). The Cougars placed ninth in the invitational 3,200 relay (9:35.81).

  • Oaks Christian: Niya Clayton was fourth in the invitational 100 (11.72) and fifth in the invitational 100 hurdles (14.69). Rayah Rodriguez was fourth in the invitational 400 (55.45). Danielle Irvin was fourth in the invitational long jump (18-6). Eleanor Borchard was second in the seeded 300 hurdles (44.35).

  • Camarillo: Trinity Tipton was fifth (134-4), Laynie Tuimaualuga (117-6) was ninth and Ava Crouse was 12th (112-4) in the invitational discus. Kimberly Willard was 13th in the seeded 800 (2:20.12). Alana Sugue was fifth in the seeded pole vault (11-0).

  • Oxnard: The Yellowjackets were third in the seeded 400 shuttle relay (1:09.34).

  • Thousand Oaks: Charlie Updegraff was seventh in the seeded 300 hurdles (45.41). Morgan Quinn was seventh in the seeded 400 (57.76). Alexandra Farfaras was 13th in the seeded shot put (32-11). Hayden Linville was seventh in the seeded triple jump (35-7).

  • Calabasas: Arielle McKenzie was eighth in the invitational 800 (2:14.85). Zoe Ray was fourth in the seeded 400 (56.70).

  • Agoura: The Chargers placed 16th in the seeded 4x100 relay (49.74).

  • Pacifica: Finagalo Nelson was 11th in the seeded shot put (34-7) and 11th in the discus (107-2).

  • Westlake: Ariella Per was fifth in the seeded discus (114-11) and 12th in the seeded shot put (33-11.25).

  • Royal: Quincie Edwards placed fifth in the invitational triple jump (37-1.50).

  • Moorpark: Madison Thai tied for ninth in the invitational high jump (5-2).

  • Rio Mesa: The Spartans placed 11th in the 3,200 relay (10:38.30).

At the 103rd Russell Cup

  • Santa Paula: Lisset Magana was second in the triple jump (34-0) and fourth in the 200 (26.40).

  • Oaks Christian: Keri Dickerson was third in the 200 (26.13) and second in the 400 (59.94). Kate Walker was third in the 800 (2:28.08). Sarah Colebrooke was second in the 1,600 (5:24.19).

  • Foothill Tech: Lily Shadden won the high jump (5-1) and was fifth in the 400 (1:04.02). Charys Pyle was second in the 300 hurdles (48.72) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.93).

  • Fillmore: Nataly Vigil was third in the 1,600 (5:26.75) and second in the 3,200 (12:06.75).

  • La Reina: Morgan Conway was third in the 3,200 (12:17.62).

  • Nordhoff: Natalie Davis was seventh in the 100 (13.32).

  • St. Bonaventure: Abby Carfaro was sixth in the 400 (1:04.50).

  • Thacher: Ali Bennett was fifth in the high jump (4-5).

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

At Mt. SAC Relays, Friday-Saturday

  • Thousand Oaks: Jeremy Frank was third in the 300 hurdles (38.80) and sixth in the seeded 110 hurdles (14.55). Pryce Edwads was second in the seeded 110 hurdles (14;67). Ryan Morreale was 10th in the seeded 800 (1:57.28). The Lancers placed sixth in the seeded 4x100 relay (42.87) and third in the seeded 1,600 relay (3;56.80).

  • Agoura: The Chargers placed ninth in the invitational 3,200 relay (7:55.44).

  • Oaks Christian: Chase Hansen was fifth in the invitational 400 (48.39). Deshonne Redeaux won the seeded 100 (10.67).

  • Calabasas: Mentos McKenzie was seventh in the invitational 400 (50.33).

  • Westlake: Adam Laycock was third in the invitational shot put (56-6.75) and fifth in the invitational discus (165-3). Cade Sommers was sixth in the invitational pole vault (15-0). Marcus Nortey was third in the seeded 400 (50.18). Brandon Orlow (10.94) and Ife Orekoya (10.97) were ninth and 12th in the seeded 100.

  • Pacifica: Jeremiah Penny was 11th in the seeded 100 (10.96).

  • Foothill Tech: Cole Dinkler was third in the seeded pole vault (13-0).

  • Moorpark: Victor Ezike was second in the invitational triple jump (46-3) and third in the invitational high jump (6-4). Kade Larson was 12th in the invitational discus (150-9) and 10th in the shot put (49-6.50).

At the 103rd Russell Cup

  • Oaks Christian: Lexington Leffall won the 100 (10.89) and placed second in the 200 (22.35) and long jump (20-5). Holden Lee won the discus (150-4). Ethan Smith was second in the 800 (4:52.24). Ethan Bergman won the pole vault (14-4).

  • St. Bonaventure: Joaquin Johnson was second in the 400 (52.63). Andrew Driver won the high jump (5-9). Christian Diaz was fourth in the 100 (11.25).

  • Foothill Tech: Daniel Kovalski was fourth in the 400 (53.24). Jonah Billings was third in the 1,600 (4:25.52).

  • Thacher: Diego Escalante was seventh in the 3,200 (10:22.18).

  • Nordhoff: Wyatt Monson was fifth in the 110 hurdles (17.71).

  • Santa Paula: Alias Rabado was sixth in the shot put (41-8.50).

  • Fillmore: Daniel Landeros was fifth in the discus (122-7).

BASEBALL

  • Alex Villacana pitched a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts, Riley Ortega was 2 for 3, Devon Wilkes went 2 for 4, and J.J Carmona had an RBI single in third inning for the game's only run as Pacifica (8-11) defeated Santa Paula 1-0 in a nonleague game. Anthony Cuevas allowed one run in a complete-game effort on the mound, Timmy Alvarez was 2 for 3, Josue Garcia went 1 for 1 with two walks, and Joshua Chavez was 1 for 3 for the Cardinals (13-8).

  • Damien Valdez had a two-out, two-run single and Jaden Valdez picked up his fifth save of the season to lead Rio Mesa to a 3-2 win over Camarillo in a nonleague game. Blaise Meylemans had a triple and Danny Aguilera went 2 for 3 for the Scorpions.

  • Roman Muñoz allowed five hits and two runs while striking out four in six innings, Landon Gaz was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Zack Serup had a hit and an RBI to lead Moorpark (13-9, 4-4) to a 6-2 win over Oak Park in a Coastal Canyon League game.

  • Rider Gordon was 2 for 2 with two walks and two RBIs, Lucas Rieker went 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI, Trevor Hansen and Noah Onoye each went 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Zachary Nagy was 2 for 3 with a double to lead Royal (13-4) to a 9-6 victory over St. Bonaventure in a nonleague game. Jagger Pena finished 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Anthony Colitti went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Cooper Tinkey was 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Seth Slagiel was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Seraphs (7-9-1).

  • Paul Mellado allowed one run while striking out six in six innings, Matthew Cuccias had a home run and two RBIs, Ethan Walgren went 3 for 3, Nico Ficele was 3 for 4, Aiden Nykoluk finished 2 for 4 with a double, Ethan Peña was 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Hector Piña was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Landen Sawyer had a double, and Landen Adair was 1 for 4 with an RBI to lead Simi Valley (15-6) to a 6-1 victory over El Segundo in a nonleague game.

  • Matthew Witkow was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Desi Gonzalez went 2 for 3, Tyler Shulman had an RBI, and Devin Gasway was 2 for 2 with a double for Calabasas in its 4-2 loss to Northwood in a nonleague game.

SOFTBALL

  • Oaks Christian defeated Royal 11-1 and then lost to Huntington Beach 8-3 in the championship game of the Righetti Best of the West tournament for the Lions' first defeat of the season. Against Royal, Heaven Oliva hit a grand slam, Terrianna Kelley was 2 for 2 with a homer, Justine Lambert had two singles and a double, Lily Knox had a double and an RBI, and Paityn Lavin allowed four hits while striking out five in five innings. Against Huntington Beach, Knox hit a three-run homer for the Lions (21-1-1).

  • Moorpark defeated Paraclete 8-1 and Muir 17-0 in three innings at the Village Christian Spring Fling Tournament to improve to 16-0 on the season. Against Paraclete, Viviana Ramirez allowed four hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts in six innings, Nathalie Hernandez hit a home run, Shae Anderson went 2 for 3 with a double, Daniela Isarraras was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Madison Finnerty and Driana Martinez each had a double and an RBI, and Sydney Burckhard was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Against Muir, Anderson was 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Martinez went 3 for 3 with two doubles, Madison Finnerty had a triple and three RBIs and struck out six in two innings, Isarraras was 1 for 1 with three walks and two RBIs, Jodianne Buckley went 1 for 2 with two RBIs, Terra Hothan had double, and Kiley Finnerty struck out two in an inning.
