Saturday's Top Prep Performers: Ventura girls wrestling team reaches CIF-SS final

Highlights from Saturday in high school sports:

GIRLS WRESTLING

  • Ventura defeated Murrieta Valley 63-16, Colony 42-34 and La Canada 48-33 at Bonita High to advance to the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 Duals championship match. The Cougars will face host Laguna Hills on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the CIF title. The team consists of Annabelle Blanda (101 pounds), Pluto Leroy (106), Lilly Jade Sinclair (106), Hannah Benson (111), Joscelyn Medina (111), Keely Schneiderbauer (111), Karina Cortez (118), Haley Padilla (121), Alexa Pelecastre (121), Avalynn Ramos (126), Giuliana Macowicz (126), Reagan Monsour (131), Hailey Smith (137), Chloe Preudhomme (137), Emmie Fago (143), Bela Smith (150), Haven Kenoss (170), Sabrina Scott (189), and Gisselle Salgado (heavyweight).

BOYS WRESTLING

  • After getting a first-round bye, top-seeded Camarillo defeated Shadow Hills 64-9 in the quarterfinal round before losing to Chaparral 36-33 in the semifinals of CIF-SS Division 2 Duals at Villa Park High.

  • Buena defeated Bishop Amat 36-33 in the first round and lost to Etiwanda 60-12 in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 3 Duals at San Clemente High. Rylan Pedroza (122) and Andrew Gonzalez (197) both went 2-0 with two pins for the Bulldogs.

  • Rio Mesa lost to Hillcrest 57-24 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3 Duals at San Clemente High.

  • Channel Islands lost to Marina 54-21 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 5 Duals at Western High.

  • After a first-round bye, top-seeded Thousand Oaks lost to Schurr 44-30 in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 6 Duals at John Glenn High.

  • Westlake defeated Sierra Vista 43-42 in the first round and lost to Bell Garden 40-39 in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 6 Duals at John Glenn High.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Sofia Salgado had 16 points and seven rebounds, Mika Jarrett finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Azalea Kubic scored eight points, Kristan Yumul had seven points and seven assists, and Sienna Angell added six points as Oxnard (18-7, 9-3) defeated Dos Pueblos 64-39 for the second time in three days to forge a tie with Ventura atop the Channel League standings. The Yellowjackets will host the Cougars on Tuesday night.

  • Skyler Knight finished with 24 points and three steals, Carys Thompson had 11 points and two rebounds, Kailee Staniland had 10 points and nine assists, Emily Rea had eight points and two assists, Sarah Beckman had eight points and five rebounds, Jessie Sebek had six points and three rebounds, Mikayla Estrada had four points and four rebounds, Ryan Maquinez had four points, and Abby Golden added two points to lead Ventura (18-8) to a 77-47 win over McFarland at the Ventura Shootout.

  • Mimi Moon had 25 points, six steals, four rebounds and four assists, Mikayla Oliver finished with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists, Haven Ramirez had 10 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Mykah Johnson had eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead Pacifica (16-7) to a 61-33 win over Newbury Park at the Ventura Shootout.

  • Harvard-Westlake defeated Westlake 52-37 at the Ventura Shootout.

  • Viewpoint defeated St. Bonaventure 51-42 at the Ventura Shootout.

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Rodney Adams Jr. had 15 points and nine rebounds, Jackson Knowles scored 11 points, and Kamden Kiech finished with six points, five rebounds and two steals as Rio Mesa (14-12, 7-5) beat Pacifica 51-27 in a Channel League game for its second win over the Tritons (7-19, 1-11) in two days.

  • Justin Rener scored 22 points, Ryder Mjoen had 16 points, Caleb Peters finished with 15 points, six rebounds and six assists, Brady MacLean had 10 points, and Sami Barakat grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Simi Valley (17-8) to a 72-62 win over Agoura in a nonleague game. Nasir Meyer scored 22 points, Zane Miller had 18 points, and Zach Ourfalian and Jake Chodorow each had eight points for the Chargers (17-9).
