Saturno appointed to state board; antique show set; new art studio, physical therapy practice open

Linda Saturno, the president and CEO of Henderson County Habitat for Humanity and Thermal Belt Habitat for Humanity, has been appointed to serve on the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina.

“This is a great honor and the appointment will allow me to join other board members in advocating for Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the state,” Saturno said in a news release.

Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and one of 31 state-supported organizations across the country. Founded in 2008, Habitat NC facilitates increased housing production and neighborhood revitalization efforts across the state by providing a central agency to coordinate advocacy activities, provide training and technical support opportunities, aid in disaster recovery and serve as a focal point for disseminating statewide resources, the release said.

Antique and Vintage Show set for June 10

The 32nd annual Antique & Vintage Show will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in downtown Hendersonville on June 10 and will feature vendors from around the region who will have a variety of antiques, vintage decor and clothing, art, mid-century modern, industrial, upcycle, jewelry, handmade and collectibles.

According to a news release, vendors will set up on Main Street from First through Sixth Avenues. Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic with the avenues remaining open.

At the same time, the Hendersonville Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Maple Street.

Paid parking is available in public and private lots surrounding the event, including the new downtown parking garage at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Church Street. For a detailed parking map, visit www.hvlnc.gov/parking.

UNC Health Pardee opens physical therapy practice in Laurel Park

According to a news release, UNC Health Pardee is expanding options for physical therapy with the opening of a new location at 1731 Brevard Road in Laurel Park. The new practice, called Pardee Physical Therapy, helps patients recover and achieve health and fitness goals. Patients are seen on an outpatient basis and are treated by licensed physical therapists.

Pardee Physical Therapy, a department of Pardee Hospital, offers individualized physical therapy to treat neck pain or injuries, back pain or injuries, shoulder impingement or rotator cuff pain, tennis elbow, knee pain, sprained ankles, sports injuries and balance problems, the release said.

Pardee Physical Therapy opened on June 6. It is currently accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment, call 828-435-8320.

Art League holds grand opening at new facility

The Art League of Henderson County recently held a grand opening of its new facility, Art Place Studios, which is located at 2015 Asheville Highway.

It houses 23 studio artists in a variety of media ranging from oil, acrylic, mixed media, watercolor, clay, encaustic, wood, metal, glass, fiber and more, according to a news release.  In addition to 23 working studios, the facility includes a large workshop/event space and a “warehouse” style studio for artists and workshops.

Plans are in the works to include a ceramic studio, which will be open to the public.

One of the first exhibits the new facility has is called The Fabulous Fakes exhibit, which was hosted at the Art Place, Art Mob and Gallery of Flat Rock. It has a “Redux” at the Art Place Studios for the month of June.

Founded in 1972, the Art League of Henderson County invites artists and art lovers to  participate in the many ways that promote visual arts in the community.

Membership in the Art League is open to residents of Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. Visitors and non-members are welcome to register for classes and to attend exhibits and programs.
