Who is Saucy Santana? Florida rapper shot near a strip club found fame on SoundCloud

Rapper Saucy Santana has made national headlines this week — but it has nothing to do with his new “Material Girl” single or his love for Chanel bags.

The Tallahassee hip-hop artist was shot and wounded near Interstate 95 and Miami Gardens Drive around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Santana, 26, and his two friends were partying it up at The Office Gentlemen’s Club, 250 NE 183rd St., in North Miami-Dade shortly before the shooting, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Santana, who is openly gay, said he might have been targeted because of the “type of artist” that he is, the AP reports.

He was in Miami scouting locations for a new video, a spokesman for Santana’s talent agency confirmed to the Miami Herald.

Here are some things you should know about this Florida rapper:

His career began on SoundCloud

Santana’s career officially took off in August when he posted “Walk Em Like A Dog” on SoundCloud. The rap had a million streams within a week of being posted, according to Genius.com.

The song was originally recorded on a phone, in a closet.

“He had a little mic and I had little headphones, we was in the closet, and I just recorded the song then,” Santana told Genius.com. “And then I put it out on SoundCloud initially.

The song’s official music video, which premiered Sept. 16, has more than three million views, as of Thursday morning.

His EP “Dog Walkers” was released in September. The lyric video for his November single “Material Girl,” has been viewed more than 400,000 times.

His name has a story behind it

“Before I was a rapper, I was a trapper. That’s one of the names that the boys from the hood gave me. They used to call me Santana,” the rapper told officemagazine.net. “Then my cousin used to be like, I love the way you dress, you look so saucy. So I collabed them together. It has that ring to it, huh?

He’s close friends with City Girls

The rapper has appeared in several videos with Yung Miami, who is part of the City Girls rap duo and is said to be good friends with her, according to multiple news outlets.

Yung Miami, whose real name is Caresha Brownlee, had her own shooting scare in August. The rapper was able to escape a barrage of gunfire at a North Miami-Dade music studio less than a week after rapper Kodak Black threatened to punch her in the stomach from his Miami jail cell. She was pregnant at the time.
