Saudi book fair gets kids reading

Saudi Arabia's youth book fair

is encouraging children to read

//with workshops,

screenings,

and lectures //

exposing them to the literary world

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) IREAD COMPETITION PARTICIPANT, KHADIJAH ALSALIM, SAYING:

"When we read a book, it gives us a certain amount of knowledge, but in a forum like this, we can share our thoughts and exchange points of view with others. This will allow us to gain more knowledge than reading ten books."

Children can submit book reviews

as part of the annual iRead competition

where they get a chance to win

'Reader of the Year'

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) IREAD COMPETITION PARTICIPANT, BASIM MESBAH, SAYING:

"I have a very beautiful feeling about the competition, the feeling that we benefit and learn together with friends. The nicest thing is how fun it is or when we have a debate with the co-ordinators about something we wrote. When we meet a writer, the best thing is when they give us the book and a small summary about it. My wish is to become this year's top writer."
