Saugatuck Brewing Company opens new location in downtown Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO — Saugatuck Brewing Company has opened its newest location in downtown Kalamazoo.

A ribbon cutting with local and state officials, business leaders, staff and patrons was held Monday, April 10, to celebrate the new SBC Kalamazoo Brewpub and Restaurant. The restaurant is located in the Peninsula Building at 200 E. Michigan Ave.

“We are so excited about today, not just because we are finally cutting the ribbon and opening the doors to our new Kalamazoo Brewpub and Restaurant, but because today symbolizes our overall strategy as a company to continue investing for the future — in our people, products and great locations like this one in Kalamazoo,” wrote SBC Board Chair Kevin van den Bosch.

Kalamazoo Mayor David Anderson said the new location adds to a growing downtown.

“Our downtown — and our city — just got even more exciting and gained more momentum with the opening of Saugatuck Brewing Company’s Kalamazoo Brewpub and Restaurant,” Anderson wrote.

The restaurant will initially be open 12-8 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 12-9 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays. In the coming months, the restaurant plans to add brunch hours and outdoor patio seating.

The new location features on-site brewing, seating for 169 people, 13 taps, a wine list, a cocktail and spirits menu and a food menu, including burgers, hot chicken sandwiches and more.

SBC plans to host trivia nights, live music and private parties in Kalamazoo.

Saugatuck Brewing Company launched in Douglas as a start-up brewery in 2005. It moved its operation, including its headquarters, brewery and warehouse, to 2948 Blue Star Highway in 2008.

SBC opened a taproom in Kalamazoo in 2019 and acquired Creston Brewery in Grand Rapids in 2021.

Last summer, SBC decided to close its initial Kalamazoo location on Westnedge Avenue in order to open the new downtown location.
