Saugatuck track rallies to continue decade-long unbeaten streak

SAUGATUCK - The Saugatuck boys track and field team has not lost a dual meet in more than a decade.

That streak nearly came to an end on Wednesday, but the Trailblazers rallied to tie Martin 68-68 in a stellar meet. Saugatuck also defeated Black River 86-49.

Saugatuck's Loch Rigozzi won the 3,200 meters in 20:00, going 1-2 with Justin Oetman (21:00). Will Ayers won the 110-meter hurdles (17.86). Luke Barde won the shot put (33 feet, 8 inches) and discus (104-11 3/4).

Saugatuck's Nick Petrik, William Doucette, Landon Miller and Jaxon Green won the 4x100 relay (47.53).

Black River's Jake VanderHenst won the 200 meters (24.18). Isaac Edgington won the 800 (2:16.35) and 1,600 (5:11.68). Edgington, Atif Usmani, Isaac Johnson and Roger Hernandez won the 4x800 (9:42.55).

Holland Calvary had some individual athletes compete and Zach Vonk won the long jump (19-6 3/4).

In the girls meet, Saugatuck defeated Black River 99-23 and beat Martin 71-62.

Saugatuck's Leilani Schoonmaker won the 3,200 (20:00). Mazie Robison won the 100 hurdles (18.06), 300 hurdles (53.77) and the high jump (4-6). Niki McNeil won the shot put (27-2).

Robison, Kiran Gahir, Jaiden Myler and Vivian Vallarsa won the 4x100 (55.56).

Black River's Camille Wolbrink won the 800 (2:53.60) just two hundredths of a second ahead of Saugatuck's Alaya Nieuwsma in the race of the day.

Black River's Nora Ballard won the 1,600 (6:33.83). Ballard, Jada Johnson, Ayla Meier and Wolbrink won the 4x800 (11:47.93).

Calvary's Alison Rotman won the 200 (29.85).
