Savannah Bananas will return to Daytona Beach in 2023 after two sellouts last spring

Banana Ball is coming back to Daytona Beach.

The Savannah Bananas announced Tuesday they will play two games at Jackie Robinson Ballpark — on Feb. 22 and 23 — as part of their 2023 World Tour. The exhibition team, dubbed “The Greatest Show in Baseball,” stopped here for two sellout contests last March.

Why is it the sport’s greatest show? Well, Banana Ball differs a bit from the traditional rules of America’s pastime.

The Bananas play under a strict two-hour time limit. There are no walks, and bunting is banned. Batters can steal first base, and if a fan catches a foul ball in the stands, that counts as an out.

The game is only a part of the spectacle. The players often perform line dances as scoring celebrations or walk up to the plate accompanied by a pep band.

Think Harlem Globetrotters.

Overall, the Bananas will host 70 games in 33 different towns. Fans nominated more than 700 cities and 28 countries for the 2023 tour.

Daytona Beach is the Bananas’ second destination of the season after they open  in West Palm Beach the previous weekend.

Tickets will go on sale on the team’s website two months prior to the games. Both will start at 7 p.m.
