Saweetie recently shared her thoughts about Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice‘s song for the new Barbie movie after fans called out that she had a version of the song in the works first.

The two New York rappers released their joint single toward the end of June for this year’s Barbie film. The song debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, Minaj and Ice Spice attended the movie premiere. Although many loved the rendition of Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl,” some music fans quickly began to chatter once they heard the California native was not on the track since the 30-year-old teased fans with a snippet of her version in 2022, according to Complex.

One of the writers, Jason Martin, who co-wrote Saweetie’s “Icy Girl, Icy World” version, even confirmed on Twitter that movie executives reached out to her with the concept to do a song and submit it for the Barbie soundtrack.

“As a writer on this, I can confirm this song and idea was sent to her last year to submit for the Barbie movie. It’s sad to see that the original artist has been pushed off a song that was her idea and was meant for both of them. I have no side in this, but I will be compensated,” Martin tweeted in June.

The “My Type” rapper recently sat down with Power 106.1’s Justin Credible for an interview. During the discussion, she was asked about the buzzing topic, her “Barbie” song, which she was happy to answer, as she has no hard feelings about “Barbie World” being selected and pushed over her finished version.

“I mean there’s no rules. It’s the Wild Wild West,” she told Credible.

“It’s inspiration! I love to inspire, that’s my purpose here, and they look bomb as f**k in the video. So it’s just like ‘Okay, b***h, I see you!’ Mine still coming out. Stay tuned,” she added.

After revealing that her song, which samples the original “Barbie Girl” from Aqua, will still be released as a single, Saweetie didn’t disclose the timing.

“I’m saving it for a very special moment,” she said.

In the meantime, fans can catch her on the road with her rumored boo, YG, and Tyga for the Str8 to the Klub Tour, set to hit 14 cities nationwide. Other artists that will be a part of the tour include Kamiyah and Wallie The Sensei. Check out the dates below!
