Sayreville condominium fire leaves four families homeless

SAYREVILLE - Four families were displaced from their homes by a Sunday afternoon fire on Dancaster Court in the Sheffield Mews Condominium Complex off Main Street.

The fire started at 18 Dancaster Court at about 12:40 p.m. and spread to four other units, police said.

There were no reported injuries to the residents or first responders.

The American Red Cross was on scene and assisted in finding lodging for two of the displaced families.

The other two families were taken in by family or friends, police said.

Sayreville, South Amboy, Perth Amboy, and Hopelawn Fire departments responded to the scene, as well as the Sayreville Emergency Squad, Police and Department of Public Works.

The fire was extinguished at about 4 p.m., police said.

A GoFundMe page has been created to raise money for the families.

Corner Property Management, the manager of the 112-unit condominium community, is coordinating efforts to help the families.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
