SBU detains suspected Russian agents preparing strikes on critical infrastructure in Odesa and Kherson
The detainees were reportedly also gathering intelligence about the basing and movement of units of the Ukrainian army in the southern, Tavria part of the country.
The SBU said the suspects also handed over the locations of critical infrastructure in Odesa and Kherson to the invaders. They were interested in the exact coordinates of local facilities of national rail company Ukrzaliznytsia and energy-generating enterprises.
The SBU exposed, located and detained the Russian agents as they were trying to transfer intelligence.
One of them was detained near the central railway station in Kherson, the other in Odesa after secretly photographing a military facility.

The criminals turned out to be local residents – the Russian occupiers recruited them after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
They were in constant intelligence contact with a staff member of the FSB administration in Russia’s Rostov Oblast of the code name “Buba Kastorskyi.” From him, the agents received tasks for reconnaissance and subversive activities in the southern region of Ukraine.
Detainees were informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The court took them into custody.
The suspects face up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property if found guilty.
