Over the three-day period, items such as computers, printers, school supplies, clothing and accessories, shoes, and certain bed and bath items will be sold and be exempt from the state’s 6% Sales Tax as well as applicable local taxes and can be purchased in-store or online, according to a release by the state’s Department of Revenue. These items can be bought new or used and are eligible for the exemption regardless of their price.

To check if your favorite local stores have items that are eligible, contact each location or prioritize time this weekend to visit each locale if you want to make the most of the three-day event.

The Tax Free Weekend, often called the Sales Tax Holiday, saw South Carolina shoppers having bought more than $26.2 million in tax-free items during last year’s annual weekend event.

“With the increased cost of inflation, this year’s Sales Tax Holiday is a welcome relief for families. Everyone saves money during Tax Free Weekend, particularly on back-to-school essentials,” said SCDOR Director Hartley Powell.

Tax-free items that are not exempt during the Tax Free Weekend’s 72-hour period include digital cameras, smartphones, jewelry, cosmetics, eye wear, wallets, watches, and furniture.
