At presidential candidate Tim Scott’s annual prayer breakfast Wednesday morning, some intimate comments were spilled by South Carolina’s U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace as she spoke to the crowd of lawmakers and pastors.

As Mace, R-Charleston, was speaking to the crowd, she explained why she had been running late, inferring that she gave up sex with her fiance to attend the event.

“When I woke up this morning at 7, I was getting picked up at 7:45, Patrick, my fiance, tried to pull me by my waist over this morning in bed. And I was like, ‘No, baby, we don’t got time for that this morning, I gotta get to the prayer breakfast, and I gotta be on time,” Mace told the crowd.

“A little TMI,” Mace added. “He can wait, I’ll see him later tonight.”

The 13th annual prayer breakfast hosted by Sen. Scott, R-Hanahan, in Washington brought together influential church members and pastors, lawmakers and more.

Mace tweeted on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, Thursday afternoon, writing “I go to church because I’m a sinner not a saint! Glad those in attendance, including @SenatorTimScott and my pastor, took this joke in stride. Pastor Greg and I will have extra to talk about on Sunday,” in response to her previous comments.

Not everyone was as amused.

Brandon Gill, founder of DC Enquirer, a conservative news site, tweeted “Imagine the level of disdain one must have for Christians to smile and say this at a prayer breakfast.

South Carolina Rep. Brandon Guffey, R-York, tweeted in response to a video FITSNews of her speech “Makes me like her. Nothing like true honesty being shared.”

Ron Filipkowski, attorney political podcaster, tweeted “People on the Right are upset about Nancy Mace’s public admission to engaging in premarital sex. Sounds like her fiancé is upset that she skipped it for a prayer breakfast.”

South Carolina’s senior U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-Seneca, Rep. Ralph Norman, R-Rock Hill, and Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-Laurens, were also in attendance at the event.
