SC residents can win prizes plishing this summer. Here’s what that is and what you could win

Have you ever heard of plishing?

It might just become your new favorite hobby.

If the term alone has piqued your interest, the South Carolina Wildlife Federation has begun its summer plishing challenge.

Plishing is a term coined from the Swedish phrase “plocka upp,” which means to pick up, combined with fishing, according to a recent SCWF release.

The plishing challenge is designed to help South Carolina residents engage with the age-old hobby and lifestyle of fishing, and combine it with a way to help keep local waterways clean from trash and litter.

This new practice lets anglers help reduce litter in the environment and catch fish at the same time. The program also acts as a great way for your family to spend time together outdoors, make memories, engage children with a summer activity and to get excited about and win prizes.

This year’s challenge began on June 1 but will continue until August 31 and is available to all ages.

After joining this conservation initiative, participants will have the ability to log any fish caught during the challenge’s time frame in addition to any litter that was picked up and properly disposed of in any South Carolina waterway.

Each fish caught, fish released and bag of litter collected throughout this summer’s plishing challenge will give anglers the opportunity to win prizes, the release states.

To make logging your progress as easy as possible, participants do not have to weigh or measure any of the fish they catch. The only proof needed is to take a picture or video of each and upload it into the required app.

Each month, there will be a different sponsor offering prizes, which may include gift cards, apparel and more fishing gear.

To register for this summer’s plishing challenge, SCWF recommends you follow the steps below.
