Scam promoting shirts from the Lee County Sheriff's Office circulating, warnings issued

Two Lee County law enforcement agencies have issued warnings involving a text-based scam and shirts promoting the Sheriff's Office.

Warnings were issued from Fort Myers police on Saturday and the Lee County Sheriff's Office on Monday about the scam.

"Please be advised that we have been made aware of a text scam currently circulating throughout the community," the FMPD alert said. "Scammers are texting residents with a “discount link” to purchase Lee County Sheriff’s Office shirts."

Both agency's warnings urged recipients to not click on any links provided, not respond and not provide any personal information.

"The Lee County Sheriff's Office will never call, text or email you in an effort to solicit money or to encourage you to purchase items,." the Sheriff's Office warning said. "If you have been victimized or would like to report the scam, you can submit a report through our Community Online Portal System on the Lee County Sheriff’s Office website."
