‘Scandal’: Will Olivia Pope Marry President Fitz & Become the New First Lady?

After five seasons of will-they-or-won’t-they, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) may finally be able to make it official — but for all the wrong reasons.

With Olivia and the Gladiators being called to testify in Fitz’s impeachment case, Cyrus (Jeff Perry) realizes that he can handle that presidential problem by sweet-talking Olivia into marrying the prez because the law states you do not have to testify against your spouse.

“Can you imagine being First Lady?” Abby (Darby Stanchfield) asks Olivia in an ABC clip from Thursday night’s upcoming episode. “If I marry Fitz, I won’t have to testify,” she responds. Imagining if she has to take the stand, Olivia adds, “I’m going to lie…because otherwise, Fitz will be impeached. And I love him too much to let that happen.”

While wedding bells are an option, there’s one thing in the way: Mellie, who is still techincally married to Fitz, though he served her divorce papers this season.

“They’ll have to go through Mellie first because the divorce is not final,” Bellamy Young, who plays Mellie, tells Variety, teasing tonight’s episode.

When asked if viewers should expect nuptials on “Scandal,” Young hinted, “Don’t get your party dress out just yet.”
