‘Scarlet Takes A Tumble,’ AKA Paige Reynolds, Talks To Jennifer Hudson About The Iconic Moment: ‘I Was Making That Song Up As I Went Along’

Back in February, TikTok users rejoiced after Paige Reynolds revealed that she was the star of “Scarlet Takes A Tumble,” a viral video that took the world by storm in 2008.

While appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Reynolds expounded on the experience of going from a teenage girl having fun on a laptop while ditching school, to a viral sensation.

Reynolds explained that the video was birthed from where most genius content comes from— boredom.

“I had done all of things I wanted to do, and I got bored so I started playing around with my mom’s laptop,” she recalled, as reported by Ice Cream Combos,. “And, you know, she had the webcam feature where it recorded.”

The latter was quite the novelty in 2008, and it didn’t take long for Reynolds’ creative juice to start flowing.

“I was like, well I’m just going to record myself singing and playing, and having a good time, and nobody was ever supposed to see it but me,” she said on the show.

The viral star also revealed that the song she was singing in the clip was an original.

“I was making that song up as I went along,” she said with a chuckle.

Reynolds shared that many people’s favorite moment in the video—her breaking the table— actually happened. After the recording was over, she asked her sister to take her to the store and buy some glue to repair it. She ended up showing her the video, which she loved.

Reynolds’s sister convinced her to show her parents, which the viral star was initially hesitant to do.

“She was like, ‘I promise you your not going to get in trouble with mommy and daddy,” she said, remembering that her sister told her to convince her to show their parents the clip.

Reynolds’s parents loved it too.

“So she showed them the video, and I did not get in trouble because they were laughing too hard,” she recalled. “They felt like me falling and bruising up my legs was punishment enough.”

Reynolds then put the video up on YouTube, hoping to share it with one of her sister’s friends, but she forgot to toggle the “Private” option when uploading it onto the platform. That mistake changed her life forever.

“It’s been such an amazing experience,” she told Hudson. “It definitely has shaped a lot of what I do no and how I interact with other people and also how I respond to opportunities that I receive. I don’t turn them down, because you never know where they are going to take you.”

Reynolds also gave fans an update on her life since the viral moment. She went to college and got a degree in psychology, and is now a mental health counselor.
