Scarlett Johansson’s husband Colin Jost was tricked into mocking his wife on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live.

Jost, a regular on the series, was doing his “Weekend Update” segment, which sees him and co-host Michael Che swap jokes. The twist is that the gags Che and Jost write for each other are often risqué or bordering on offensive.

In one joke, Jost reported on Creed frontman Scott Stapp's casting as Frank Sinatra in the forthcoming Ronald Reagan biopic. The punchline was: “But the good news is Sammy Davis Jr will be played by Scarlett Johansson."

The quip references controversies over the characters Johansson has played in the past. The actor came under fire for portraying a Japanese character in the 2017 live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. She also ended up withdrawing from the film Rub and Tug after being cast as a trans male gangster, following a backlash.

After he made the joke, Jost shook his head in amusement and put his face in his hands.

The Christmas episode, hosted by Kristen Wiig, also saw Alex Moffat replace Jim Carrey as Joe Biden. Moffat’s impersonation was hailed as “much more accurate” by fans.

SNL said “so long, farewell, aufwiedersehn” to President Donald Trump during its final episode of the year as well, highlighting some of his most controversial moments along the campaign trail and in the White House.
