‘It was scary’: Miami celebrity reporter has health scare during Super Bowl weekend

Sending out healing vibes!

Lisa Petrillo, the gregarious CBS4 entertainment/celebrity reporter, is laid up for a bit, and we’re wishing her all the best.

Petrillo shared some scary health news to her friends, fans and followers on Tuesday.

After a long, few days covering Super Bowl LIV pregame, the TV personality underwent surgery for a detached retina on her right eye.

The Mayo Clinic describes the painless condition as “an emergency situation in which a thin layer of tissue (the retina) at the back of the eye pulls away from its normal position.”

Petrillo wrote about what she was experiencing leading up to the diagnosis.

“So you really never know where life is going to take you,” she began her post. “During all the exciting Super Bowl coverage I was feeling weird sensations in my eye.”

On game day, Petrillo wrote that she slowly started losing sight.

“First seeing a round black dot … Then some real weird swirling effects, then it felt like a curtain closing.”

Crazy busy (even dancing up a storm with Jamie Foxx at the Big Game Big Give Party), Petrillo pushed through, until she couldn’t.

“Monday I woke up to almost no vision [so] we rushed to the eye doctor and was diagnosed with a complete, detached retina.”

Pics show her recovery process, which includes staying face-down for several days as the retina heals. At least she can still type and see out of her left eye.

“I’m not gonna lie, it was scary but I’m so thankful because it could’ve been much worse… And I’m very hopeful I’ll have a full recovery.”

First step to recovery: Petrillo posted an Insta Story with a pic of a glass of white wine with a straw for #WineWednesdays. “Whatever works,” joked the Emmy winner.

In December, another beloved TV reporter went through a similar health issue.

Savannah Guthrie had to miss several days of work, plus ditch her contact lenses after undergoing retinal detachment surgery.

Petrillo doesn’t know how her problem developed but Guthrie does: Her 3 year old son Charley threw a toy train directly at her eye. She’s fine now and we hope Petrillo will be as well. Soon.
