Schaefer Park Cleanup and Potluck Set for Saturday to Commemorate 9/11 Victims

Sep. 10—The Centralia stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with Lewis County Parks and Recreation and Vegetation Management, will hold a community service event on Saturday, Sept. 10, starting at 9 a.m. to clean Schaefer Park.

The cleanup effort is being held in commemoration of those lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Anyone interested is invited to help. Approximately 200 volunteers and Lewis County employees are already expected to participate.

The cleanup effort will focus on trails around the park, removing fallen trees, painting over graffiti and sanding down picnic tables. Those planning on going are also asked to bring chainsaws, sanding equipment, weed wackers, wheelbarrows, pruning equipment, hand saws and lawn chairs if able.

Cleanup efforts are expected to continue until noon, when a picnic and barbecue potluck will start for volunteers. While lunch will be provided, volunteers are encouraged to bring additional side dishes or desserts for the potluck too.

Schaefer Park is located north of Centralia city limits at 822 Downing Road just off state Route 507.
