If former President Donald Trump returns to the White House, will U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, a prominent Trump critic, end up in jail?

The Burbank Democrat is preparing for that possibility.

Trump said on his Truth Social platform that members of the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack — or, as he calls it, the “unselect committee” — “should go to jail.”

Schiff might be a senator by that point, as he is facing off with Republican former baseball star Steve Garvey in the race to fill the seat once held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, but given Trump’s statements on the campaign trail, that’s no guarantee of safety.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Schiff said “he’s having ‘real-time conversations’ with his staff about how to make sure he stays safe if Trump follows through on his threats.”

“We’re taking this seriously, because we have to,” Schiff said. “We’ve seen this movie before … and how perilous it is to ignore what someone is saying when they say they want to be a dictator.”
