Schnoogums opens doors for business in Austinburg

Apr. 8—AUSTINBURG — Coffee, bagel and smoothie lovers around Austinburg have a new place to stop after a ribbon cutting was held for Schnoogums on Wednesday afternoon.

Schnoogums, located at 2127 Route 45 in Austinburg, opened to the public in late March. Steven Kuhn, founder of Schnoogums, said he decided to open the business after noticing that there were not any thing similar in the Austinburg area, he said.

"I just noticed that, just driving in this area, that there was no bagel place, coffee place for specialty coffee, things of that nature, so the idea just kind of generated from there," Kuhn said. The idea grew from bagels to coffee to smoothies, he said. The business also sells whole-bean coffee.

Kuhn said Schnoogums' smoothies are made with frozen fruit and yogurt or ice cream and juice.

"Our frozen fruit drinks are thick," he said.

Kuhn owned two businesses prior to Schnoogums, and he started feeling an itch to start a new one, he said. Once he decided what kind of business he wanted, it took Kuhn about a year to get things up and running, he said.

The business is open from 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., seven days a week, and is considering expanding its hours for the summer, Kuhn said.
