Scholar athletes receive scholarships during BCAA dinner. Plus baseball and volleyball results

The Broward County Athletic Association recently presented scholarship awards to several of the county’s best and brightest at the North and South Scholar Athlete banquets each held at the Signature Grand in Davie.

The event’s Keynote speakers were Western’s Camryn Cala and Coral Glades’ Hailey Stein. South Plantation boys’ basketball coach Derek Felder was named the South’s Coach of the Year, and Stoneman Douglas baseball coach Todd Fitz-Gerald was named the North’s Coach of the Year.

BCAA Scholarships of Merit were awarded to Isabella Paez-Pumar (Cypress Bay), Andrew Figueroa (McArthur), Nathaniel Davis (Miramar), Kaitlin Fernandez (Pembroke Pines Charter), Sincere Rodriguez (Stranahan), Macy Berg (Cardinal Gibbons), Zack Zimmerman (Fort Lauderdale), Nicolle Sanchez-Stoll (Taravella), Devon Hewitt (Northeast) and Nicholas Che-Rahim (Piper).

The Broward County Basketball Officials Association awarded scholarships to Joaquin Pineyrua (Cypress Bay), Liam Stephen (Everglades), Ashleigh Battle (Blanche Ely) and Kellen Cashman (Boyd Anderson).

BSN Sports awarded scholarships to Aysia Allick (Flanagan), Chance Ignacio-Suarez (South Broward), Erick De Kok (Western), Jahzaria Burroughs (Deerfield Beach), Stephanie Reynoso (Plantation) and Jonah Bennett (Pompano Beach).

Charity for Champions awarded scholarships to Alexa Moore (Nova), Kathryn Coughlin (South Broward), Joaquin Querol (St. Thomas Aquinas), Katherine Hernandez (Coral Glades), Keith Rogers (Fort Lauderdale) and Camila Lopez-Rodriguez (Piper).

Chris Hixon Athletic Scholarships were awarded to Kennedy Lerner (Cooper City), Alexandra Gonzales (South Broward), Ta’nya Saunders (Blanche Ely) and Kylie Messmer (Stoneman Douglas).

Damian Huttenhoff Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Rebecca Louis (Hallandale), Malachi Harris (McArthur), Anjelina Telfort (Miramar), Paul Abolafia (Pembroke Pines Charter), Angelicke Thompson (Stranahan), Izabella Garcia (West Broward), Ruth Medelus (Coconut Creek), Jourdin Gayle (Coral Springs), Nolan Debrocq (Deerfield Beach), Kaitlyn Hammel (Monarch) and Jewel Cross (Northeast).

Damian Huttenhoff Golf Scholarships were awarded to Taylor Levine (Cypress Bay), Brianna Molyneaux (Nova), Lawton Vargo (Pompano Beach) and Tyson Thompson (Stoneman Douglas).

Kreul Classic in partnership with FAU and Publix awarded scholarships to Ashley Better (Flanagan), Rutan Bui (Nova), Leos Kennedy (Taravella) and Ava Martinez (Monarch).

M-F Athletics awarded scholarships to Sophia Nesselroth (Cooper City), Randy Smith, Jr. (Everglades), Lea Ramnarace (Coral Springs) and Alexandra Bruno (Coral Springs Charter).

Legacy Sunshine State Explosion awarded a scholarship to Cortez Abel (Boyd Anderson).

The Miami Dolphins awarded scholarships to Alejandro Mateus (Everglades), Dechon Lee (Hallandale), Valeria Sanchez (Hollywood Hills), Shamaya Julmist (Blanche Ely), Kevin Dunbar (Dillard) and Jacob Hunter (Stoneman Douglas).

Superintendent’s Scholarships were awarded to Samantha Carozzi (Cooper City), Camryn Rubin (Western), Tamijah Scriven (Dillard) and Jada Foster (Plantation).

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital U-18 Sports Medicine Scholarships were awarded to Jeremiah Posey (Hollywood Hills), Kyanne Anderson (Hollywood Hills), Natalie Wirth (South Plantation), Lexi Fractenberg (South Plantation), Isabella Ruffolo (St. Thomas Aquinas), Brandon Armenteros (West Broward), Toula Petros (Cardinal Gibbons), Ranelle Thomas-Morgan (Coconut Creek), Kaitlyn Bonasera (Coral Glades), Lynnae Varkala (Coral Springs Charter), Evangeline Meyler (Fort Lauderdale) and Jenifer Varon (Coconut Creek).

Boys’ volleyball

Belen Jesuit boys’ volleyball eclipsed the 20-win mark this season with victories over Mater Lakes and Miami Beach. The Wolverines improved to 21-3.
