Scholar, author Elijah Anderson to talk about Black experience in South Bend

SOUTH BEND — Elijah Anderson, an urban ethnographer and author of several books about the Black experience, will talk about his life growing up in South Bend in a free presentation from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 12 at the St. Joseph County Public Library.

Anderson, a professor of sociology and African American studies at Yale University, will share stories from his most recent book, “Black in White Space” (2022, University of Chicago Press), among other discoveries. A Q&A session will follow the talk.

The event will be in the Ballroom in the library’s Community Learning Center, 305 S. Michigan St.

It’s organized by Gabrielle Robinson, local author of the book “Better Homes of South Bend,” which South Bend Civic Theatre will perform as a play Nov. 10 to 19.
