A member of the Braintree Board of Health and school administrator at Weston Public Schools was fatally shot Wednesday outside her home on Howie Road, according to authorities.

Police were called to the house around noon and found Laurie Melchionda, 59, suffering from several gunshot wounds, officials said. Authorities also found Robert Bonang, 61, of Marshfield near the front entrance of the woman's home and took him into custody, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey's office said.

"It is believed that this is a targeted event, it's not a random act and this is not something that the neighbors should have to worry about," Morrissey told WCVB.
