Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. The North Carolina burn ban has been lifted in 67 counties, including Wake as of noon on Wednesday. The ban remains in effect in 33 other counties. (CBS17)

  2. Wake County approved its third and final iteration of the 2022-23 enrollment plan on Tuesday night. The latest version drops plans to move Falls River students to Durant Road Elementary/Middle Schools as well as plans to move students designated for Panther Creek High to Green Hope High. (WRAL)

  3. Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin is considering ways to loosen the mask mandate for Raleigh. The county is still a "high transmission area" and would need to cut its case load by more than 70 percent to meet the original benchmark, but during Tuesday night's City Council Meeting, the mayor asked staff to research ways to relax the mandate for gyms and small retail shops.   4. A Raleigh couple is making a $10 million donation to the new playground and plaza at Raleigh's Dix Park. The park will now be named the Gipson Play Plaza for at least 30 years in honor of Tom and Pat Gipson who donated the money. (abc11)

  5. Raleigh is one of only three cities chosen for a new Uber pilot program. The program will give riders access to a new safety feature that will allow riders to enable audio recording. If a driver or passenger submits an incident report, the audio would be available to attach. (CarAndDriver)

  • Today is International Day of Veterinary Medicine, and Raleigh is home to NCSU's College of Veterinary Medicine. The NCSU Vet School consistently ranks among some of the top Veterinary programs in the nation!

  • Bridge the Gap Mission and My Way Tavern are hosting their Annual Toy Drive Event today. Receive a raffle ticket for every unwrapped toy or winter coat you donate. (7:00 pm-10:00 pm)

  • WRAL's First Night Raleigh is looking for volunteers to help with the annual downtown Raleigh New Years event. (WRAL)

  • Thousands of families are planning on attending Disney on Ice at PNC. The event is full capacity and proof of vaccination/COVID tests will not be required, but the Raleigh mask mandate will apply. (WRAL)
