School board approves new Ames high school, middle school principals
The Ames Community School District has officially hired its new principals for the middle school and high school.
The district announced last week it had selected Paul Numedahl as the new Ames High School principal and Boston Freilinger as the new Ames Middle School principal. On Monday, the school board formally approved their hires with a unanimous vote.
Numedahl and Freilinger will start with the district on July 1.
Numedahl is the principal of Humboldt High School in north central Iowa. He was previously the assistant principal at a high school in Monument, Colorado.
Freilinger is associate principal at Hoover High School in Des Moines. He also has served as vice principal of Meredith Middle School in Des Moines.
Numedahl will assume leadership of Ames High School after the tenure of acting principal Kenneth Damron, who assumed the role last week after former interim principal Steve Johns resigned.
Freilinger will assume leadership of Ames Middle School after the tenure of Yonas Michael, who resigned last summer but will finish the school year in the role.
Numedahl will be paid $145,000 a year, and Freilinger, $130,000.
