School board approves two resignations from district

CHEBOYGAN — At the Nov. 22 Cheboygan Area Schools Board of Education meeting, the school board members approved two resignations by district staff members, one of which was for the purpose of retirement.

Cheboygan Area Schools Board of Education President Marianne Ridings said it was unfortunate there were two resignations from the school district.

"We have Judy Ryan, a first grade teacher," said Ridings.

Ryan is one of the teachers who has been teaching first grade at East Elementary for Cheboygan Area Schools for several years.

The school board members voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Ryan from the district, with regrets.

As a communication piece — which did not need to be approved by the board, but was acknowledged — Ridings also said Mary Lou Rose also turned in her letter of resignation from the district for purpose of retirement.

Rose has been working for the school district as a food service worker, and plans on retiring after nine and a half years with the Cheboygan Area Schools district.

"We just want to wish both of them the best and we appreciate everything that they have given to the district and to the students of our district," said Ridings.

Since the beginning of the school year, there have been several resignations from the members of the staff at Cheboygan Area Schools. There has also been a number of new staff members who have been hired by the school board to fill vacancies within the district.

There are a number of positions that are open at Cheboygan Area Schools that the district is looking to fill. These positions include substitute custodians and bus drivers, with the potential for full time positions and certifications.

The school district also needs a number of substitute teachers and aides.

Positions looking to be filled can be found on the Cheboygan Area Schools website, under the "Departments" tab, by clicking on the Human Resources option.
