School Bus Driver Hailed as Hero After Bus, Trailer Jackknife on Icy Road in Eden Prairie

A school bus pulling a trailer slid and jackknifed on Eden Prairie Road in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, on Saturday, December 28. Icy conditions were reported across the region on Saturday, and warnings were issued.

“Extreme ice” prompted an early no-travel advisory for the Twin Cities metropolitan area on Saturday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and the advisory was lifted by 12.30 pm. Within a five-hour timespan on Saturday morning, the Minnesota State Patrol reported 357 crashes, 149 spun-out vehicles, and 13 jackknifed semi trucks.

In response to Myhre’s tweet, Twitter user @Abirigala, who was the hockey coach on the bus, wrote: “I am the hockey coach that was on the bus. The bus driver was a hero!” In another tweet, she wrote: “I am the hockey coach who was on the bus with my team-everyone was okay! The bus driver was amazing and we got to the rink to a cancelled game so we decided to have some fun on the real ice!” Credit: Matt Myhre via Storyful
