School bus, SUV involved in crash in front of Ben D. Quinn Elementary School

First responders were on the scene in front of Ben D. Quinn Elementary School in New Bern after a white SUV and a school bus was involved in an accident Tuesday.

The SUV was headed north on Highway 17 and MLK Jr. Boulevard, ran a red light and collided with a school bus around 4:30 p.m., according to the city of New Bern government.

Children were passengers on the bus, but the bus driver and students did not suffer any injuries, a post from the city-states. Officials said they were safely removed from the bus.

The driver of the white SUV suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to the city. It is unknown the extent of the driver's injuries.

Officers from New Bern Police Department, firefighters from New Bern Fire and Rescue, and emergency service first responders have removed the SUV from under the bus where it was stuck after the accident.

Traffic is now flowing both ways on U.S. Highway 17. The bus and SUV have been cleared from the scene.
