School closures in, near Baton Rouge due to Wednesday severe weather threat

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge area could see strong to severe storms on Wednesday, April 10.

The BRProud StormTracker Team said severe storms are probable over portions of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Forecasts show there is a chance for heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.

Ascension Parish

All Ascension Parish public schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the forecasted weather.

Baton Rouge Community College

Baton Rouge Community College will be transitioning to virtual instruction and remote work on Wednesday, April 10, due to the forecasted weather.

“BRCC encourages students experiencing difficulties with online access or connectivity due to the weather to contact their instructions,” said BRCC in a news release.

Central Community School System

Schools in the Central Community School System will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather forecast.

East Baton Rouge Parish

All East Baton Rouge Parish schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to a severe weather threat.

East Baton Rouge Diocesan Catholic Schools

All East Baton Rouge Diocesan Catholic Schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the forecasted weather.

East Feliciana Parish

All East Feliciana Parish public schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather forecast.

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University will be implementing remote operations on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather forecast.

Helix Community Schools

Helix Community Schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to severe weather. Classes will resume on Thursday, April 11, according to Michelle McCalope, marketing and communications director for Helix Community Schools.

Holy Family School

Holy Family School will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather threat.

IDEA Public Schools

IDEA Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather threat. School will resume on Thursday, April 11, according to Katrice Terrance, regional director of operations at IDEA Public Schools.

Iberville Parish

All Iberville Parish schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the forecasted weather.

Livingston Parish

Public schools in Livingston Parish will be closed Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather threat.

“We are encouraging our families to stay safe and avoid exposure to the weather,” Superintendent Joe Murphy said.

Schools will reopen on Thursday.

Louisiana State University

Louisiana State University will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather forecast.

“Faculty will hold all classes remotely or in an asynchronous format, and should communicate directly with their students about this change,” said LSU in a news release.

Parkview Baptist School

Parkview Baptist School will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the forecasted weather.

Pointe Coupee Parish

All Pointe Coupee Parish public schools and the district office will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather forecast.

Southern University and A&M College

Southern University and A&M College will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the forecasted weather. The Southern University Law Center will move to remote operations on Wednesday, April 10.

Southern University Laboratory School

Southern University Laboratory School will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather threat.

St. Helena Parish

The St. Helena Parish School District said schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 10 due to severe weather.

St. Joseph’s Academy

St. Joseph’s Academy will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to severe weather, according to St. Joseph Academy’s communications director Mindy Averitt. St. Joseph’s Academy will be having a virtual school day, according to Averitt.

St. Luke’s Episcopal School

St. Luke’s Episcopal School will be closed on Wednesday, April 10, due to the forecasted weather.

West Baton Rouge Parish

All West Baton Rouge Parish schools and offices will close on Wednesday, April 10, due to the severe weather forecast.

West Feliciana Parish

All schools in West Feliciana Parish will be closed on Wednesday, April 10 due to severe weather, according to Superintendent Hollis Milton. Students won’t be assigned virtual coursework and extracurricular activities are also canceled, Milton said.

Students will return to classrooms on Thursday.

Zachary Community School District

Zachary schools will be closed Wednesday, April 10 due to severe weather. Officials said all after-school activities will be canceled as well as Extended Day Services.
