When will School Zones and traffic increase in the area? Here's when school starts

As the calendar turns to August, parents and students alike begin to wonder aloud, "When does school start?"

MetroWest and Greater Milford school districts have scheduled students to return either the last week of August or the first week of September. Most districts also have students in grades 1-12 return on the same day, with dates varying for kindergartners and those in pre-k or preschool programs.

School districts' academic calendars are approved by their school committees and can be found on the school district websites.

What follows is a roundup of start dates for Metrowest and Greater Milford communities:

Ashland Public Schools

Ashland Public Schools' first days are Tuesday, Sept. 5, for students in grades 1-12 and Wednesday, Sept. 6, for those entering kindergarten or pre-k.

Bellingham Public Schools

Public schools in Bellingham start on various days. Students in first grade and up start the school year on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Kindergarten starts Thursday, Aug. 31, a day after an orientation.

Orientation for Bellingham's preschool program is on Aug. 31, with the first day for the town's preschool program being Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Framingham Public Schools

Framingham's first day for grades 1-12 is Wednesday, Aug. 30. Kindergarten screening takes place that week, with the first day for kindergarten and BLOCKS starting Wednesday, Sept. 6.

BLOCKS (Building Learning Opportunities for Children's Kindergarten Success) is Framingham Public Schools' preschool program.

Franklin Public Schools

Franklin Public Schools starts school on Wednesday, Aug. 30. for students in grades 1-12. The following day (Aug. 31) is the first day for kindergartners.

Franklin's Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) is the town's preschool program for students ages 3-5. Its first day is Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Holliston Public Schools

Tuesday, Aug. 29, marks the first day for all Holliston Public Schools students except those entering kindergarten and preschool. Their first day is Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Hopedale Public Schools

Students in Hopedale Public Schools in grades 1-12 start school on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Kindergarten and Bright Beginnings Center — Hopedale's preschool program — begin on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Hopkinton Public Schools

The first day of school for students in grades 1-12 in Hopkinton Public Schools is Wednesday, Aug. 30. Kindergartners start the following day, Aug. 31. Preschool students start school on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Hudson Public Schools

The first day of school for all Hudson Public Schools students is Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Marlborough Public Schools

Marlborough Public Schools students in grades 1-12 begin school on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Students enrolled in the Early Childhood Center and kindergarten start school on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Medway Public Schools

For students in grades 1-12, school starts in Medway on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Students entering kindergarten and pre-k start the next day, Aug. 31.

Mendon-Upton Regional School District

All students in grades k-12 in the Mendon-Upton Regional School District begin school on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Pre-k reports on Tuesday, Sept 5.

Milford Public Schools

Milford Public Schools students in grades 1-12 start school on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Pre-k students begin Thursday, Aug. 31, and kindergartners begin Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Millis Public Schools

Millis Public Schools students in grades 1-12 start school on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The first day for pre-k and kindergarten students is Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Natick Public Schools

The first day of school for all Natick Public Schools students is Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Northborough and Southborough Public Schools

The first day of school for all Northborough and Southborough students is Thursday, Aug. 31.

Dover-Sherborn Public Schools

Dover-Sherborn students in grades 1-12 start school on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Pre-K and kindergarten students' first day is Thursday, Aug. 31.

Sudbury Public Schools

Sudbury Public Schools students in grades 1-8 start school on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Pre-K and kindergarten students start school on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School students start school on Wedesday, Aug. 30.

Wayland Public Schools

Wayland Public Schools students in pre-k and grades 1-12 start school on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Kindergartners start on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Westborough Public Schools

All Westborough Public Schools students will start school on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
