SCHOOLS: Fort Worth ISD, others cancel classes Tuesday due to winter storm

Fort Worth area schools have begun to announce cancellations for Tuesday as a winter storm dumps sleet and freezing rain on North Texas.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Icy roads have caused dozens of major accidents.

The Fort Worth school district said it would follow normal dismissal times Monday but parents may pick up students early. The district said an announcement at the end of the day Monday that classes would be canceled Tuesday.

Here is a list of closures for Monday:

  • Birdville will release high school students at noon, middle school students at 1 p.m., and elementary students at their normal time (3:35 p.m.). Parents may pick up their children early.

  • Aledo

  • Azle

  • Carroll (early release: pre-k at 12:50 p.m.; k-4 at 1 p.m.; 9-12 at 1:39 p.m.; 5-8 at 1:45 p.m.)

  • Castleberry

  • Eagle Mountain-Saginaw

  • Everman will release high school and academy at noon, Baxter & STEM at 12:30 and elementary at 1 p.m.

  • Hurst-Euless-Bedford will release high school students at 1 p.m., junior high at 2 p.m. and elementary at normal time.

  • Lake Worth

  • Lipan

  • Granbury

  • Weatherford

  • Brock

  • Millsap

  • Mineral Wells

  • Peaster

  • Poolville

  • Stephenville

TCU: Closes at noon Monday.

Decatur: Closes at 12:30 Monday.

Fort Worth: The Fort Worth school district said it would open buildings early for students and that it is suspending tardy procedures for the start of the day.

Crowley: The school district said it would open buildings early.

Grapevine-Colleyville: Schools are open but the district said to expect delays in bus schedules.

Springtown: Classes are scheduled but district officials said early release is possible if conditions deteriorate.

University of North Texas: Denton and Frisco campuses are closed.
