🌱 Schools Lift Mask Mandate + Eatery Opening + Teacher Nominees

Here are the top stories today in Glen Burnie:

  1. The Maryland State Board of Education on Tuesday approved a new rule clearing the way for local school districts to lift mask mandates covering their jurisdictions if certain benchmarks are met. The board voted 12-1 to repeal the existing mask mandate and replace it with a rule that would extend mask requirements through the end of the school year, but allow districts’ mandates to be lifted based on local vaccination or transmission rates.   2. Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Anne Arundel County Department of Health on Tuesday announced four additional vaccine clinics for children ages 5 to 11. All the clinics run from 5-7:30 p.m. The Clinic in Glen Burnie will be in operation on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Point Pleasant Elementary School, 1035 Dumbarton Road, Glen Burnie. (CBS Baltimore)

  4. Shake Shack is expanding in Baltimore with a new location coming to Canton. The burger chain will open a restaurant at 3902 Boston St. in late 2022, Shake Shack officials confirmed Tuesday. The eatery will be a tenant of the new retail center planned by developer Mark Sapperstein at 1201 Haven St.Shake Shack's newest Baltimore location will have a drive-thru lane, a feature the chain added this year amid changing consumer preferences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first Shake Shack drive-thru opened Monday in Minnesota, according to "Thrillist," which also reports that the fast-casual company plans to announce 10 more drive-thrus by the end of 2022.
